Nazarene Youth Work in District Tomorrow, National Conference Runs This Week

Louisville is pleased to welcome more than 6000 young people to our community this week for the Church of the Nazarene's annual national youth conference. These outstanding young people will be volunteering throughout the area this week to demonstrate their commitment to the conference theme of working to make our world an "unbroken place."

About 1,000 conference participants will be partnering with Brightside on community clean-up projects. In our district, 43 teens will be working for six hours tomorrow, July 6th, to clean up our National Turnpike corridor, from Southside Drive to the Gene Snyder Freeway. Our thanks to the National Turnpike White Castle for donating 100 hamburgers to help provide lunch for this group. A second group will also be working along the New Cut Rd. corridor, which is being organized by the Auburndale Neighborhood Association. If you see any of these wonderful young people working in our district—or out in the community—please do say “hello and welcome” and thank them for their work.

“Build Your Skills” FREE Job Seekers Workshop

After more than 400 Louisvillians attended his “Build Your Skills” workshop for job-seekers in 2010, Congressman Yarmuth announced he would host a second free event this year. On July 22, Louisville residents who are unemployed, underemployed, or looking to change their careers are invited to attend the “Build Your Skills” event, where they can receive professional advice on resume writing, job-hunting, and interviewing.  Workshops will be led by career counselors and experts who will also participate in one-on-one sessions with individuals seeking resume advice and interviewing tips.  Hosted in conjunction with KentuckianaWorks and the Louisville Urban League, Congressman Yarmuth’s event is free and open to residents of the 3rd Congressional District.  Those who would like to attend this event  should RSVP at http://yarmuth.house.gov or by calling (502) 582-5129.
