Attention All Shoppers!

Where: Taylor Blvd. Save-A-Lot Store

When: Tuesday,September 24 from 8:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.

The Taylor Blvd. Save-A-Lot Store plans to donate ten percent (10%) of all sales that day to South Louisville Community Ministries.

The timing of this event is important because SLCM just moved into a new location at 415 1/2 W. Ashland Avenue.  The proceeds will go toward moving expenses and also to aid the needy people of South Louisville. 

We are encouraging all our contacts to share this information with friends and families.  There will be door prize drawings throughout the day.

Final New Cut / Southern Parkway Trolley Hop

This weekend will conclude the New Cut/Southern Parkway Trolley Hop.

Where: New Cut/Southern Parkway TARC or Trolley Stop.

When: Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.

Take advantage this weekend of the final Trolley Hop by indulging in some of South West Louisville's richest attractions and beautiful scenery. 

You can board at any designated TARC or Trolley Stop.

Family Canoe Day at Jefferson Memorial Forest

Jefferson Memorial Forest will offer a Family Canoe Day

Where: Jefferson Memorial Forest at Tom Wallace Lake.

When:  Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program is for ages 5 to adult and is perfect for all skill levels – beginners are welcome.

The fee is $10 for a 30 minute canoe rental, and each canoe has capacity to carry maximum of two adults and one child under 12. The fee includes all equipment – canoe, paddles, and personal flotation devices. Families will also be able to rent fishing poles from the Welcome Center and enjoy concessions for purchase from Get it on a Bun at Booty’s food truck.

100 Years on the Ohio River - Daytime Family Fun

Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing will host “100 Years on the Ohio"

Where: 7410 Moorman Road, Historic Farnsley-Moremen

When: Saturday and Sunday, September 21st and 22nd from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Events:

  • An historical timeline experience, representing the years 1765 to 1865, where visitors will see:
  • Period fashion shows, children’s games, dance demonstrations, and an archery demonstration. Two historical re-enactor presentations feature the portrayal of a late 18th century doctor.
  • Re-enactor highlight is Dennis Boggs’ portrayal of President Abraham Lincoln.
  • An 1860’s-style baseball game between the Cincinnati Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Red Stockings at 1:00 PM on Sunday.

Admission is $6/Adults; $5/Seniors; and $3/Children per day.  A family rate allows two adults with up to 3 children to enter for $15.

Admission includes a tour of the centerpiece of the property, the historic Farnsley-Moremen House. This event is being held in conjunction with the Falls Landing Foundation, Inc.


Iroquois Amphitheater 75th Anniversary Free Concert

Where: Iroquois Amphitheater

When: Sunday, September 22 at 5 p.m - 9:30 p.m.

The 75th Anniversary event will pay tribute to the theatre’s early years with period music from the University of Louisville Big Band Jazz Ensemble.

 “Louisville Metro Parks is very proud to oversee the management of this theater,” said Metro Parks director Mike Heitz. “From its long-standing tradition of featuring the best and brightest among local performers, to a state of the art facility which also attracts major regional and national artists, the amphitheater is a community treasure.”

EVENT DETAILS

5:30 p.m.     Cocktail hour while the U of L Big Band Jazz Ensemble plays period jazz and standards from amphitheater's past. A dance floor will be set up on the Amphitheater stage.

7:00 p.m.     A short program honoring the Amphitheater’s history and its supporters.

7:30 p.m.     Group photo of 75 years of Amphitheater cast and crew.

8:00 p.m.     Music by Justin Paul Lewis

9:30 p.m.     Event Ends


Healthy Hoops with Darrell Griffith

WHERE: Moore Traditional High School (6415 Outer Loop)

On September 28, Healthy Hoops KY "Tipoff Event" will offer a full day of fun and education to children (ages 7 to 13) with asthma. Healthy Hoops KY is a free program that uses basketball and fun to focus on the needs of youth struggling with the symptoms of asthma.

There will be basketball clinics with celebrity coaches and players like Louisville legend Darrell Griffith, health screenings, and workshops on asthma management.

Adult Kickball Championship Tournament

Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation is teaming up with LXC Sports to host an Adult Kickball Championship Tournament

Where: Thurman Hutchins, Louisville Champions, and Seneca parks

When: September 27, 28, and 29

Grand Prize: $1,000 furnished by LXC Sports.

The tournament is co-ed, for ages 18 and older, with 10-20 players per roster, and 10 players (at least four female) on the field at once. Team registration fee is $200, and deadline to register is September 25.

With a format of two round robin games and a single elimination tournament, each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of three games.

Brightside Community-Wide Cleanup Saturday - October 26th

Make a difference this fall!

Register your family, friends, employer, place of worship, organization or school for the Brightside Community-Wide Cleanup. Last spring, nearly 11,000 volunteers participated, clearing 16 tons of trash from streets, sidewalks and green spaces! Groups select their own cleanup site.

Finnegan is a Labrador/Golden Retriever mix who is about a year-and-a-half. He’s energetic and graceful. Finnegan walks well on the leash and will be a fun walking companion. He’s people-friendly. He loves to play with other dogs in the play yard.  He’s a smart, happy boy with loads of love to give.

Sandy is a five-year-old beagle mix. She’s  a real jewel. She likes to sit in laps and hang out with people. Sandy wants to be with you all the time and is devoted. She would prefer to be in a household with other dogs. She’ll need consistent companionship, canine or human. She loves a good back scratch. In fact, Sandy made photo time a little difficult because she kept rolling over on her back for a belly rub.  If you’d like a love bug who will adore you, Sandy is your girl.
