Fairdale Fair, Final Trolley Hop Highlight September's Happening Events

Collage Fairdale Fair

Part carnival with rides, food and entertainment. Part community festival with a parade and information booths. Part homecoming. It’s no wonder the Fairdale Fair continues to be the happening event of the fall for the south Louisville area.

The 83rd annual Fairdale Fair, September 20-21, is expected to once again draw up to 10,000 people to the grounds of the Fairdale Playtorium and Fairdale Elementary school, on W. Manslick Rd. Hours for Friday, Sept. 20th are 5-11 p.m. Hours for Saturday, Sept. 21st are 1-10 p.m.. Saturday's much-loved parade is set for 12 noon.

Another great attraction on Saturday, the 21st, will be the final run of the Newcut/Southern Parkway Trolley Hop. Ride the trolley FREE from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at any designated TARC/ Trolley Stop, or park & ride at Iroquois Amphitheater area. It passes nearly 40 landmarks, restaurants and attractions including the Fairdale Fair, so it’s a fun, easy way to avoid parking challenges at the fair while taking in lots of featured stops and attractions (see below).

  • The Little Loomhouse– Weaving Demo, Happy Birthday Song!

Waverly Dog Park Arf-date (That's doggie-speak for update)

The Louisville Dog Run Association is leading the way to build and maintain a great off-leash dog run at Waverly, with two joined but separate fenced areas for dogs and their families to enjoy. The parking lot expansion phase that increased parking capacity by 50 slots has been finished.  This was needed to accommodate the anticipated increase in park users expected with the opening of Southwest Louisville's first off-leash dog park.  Construction should begin soon and should only last about a week, so stay tuned for more arf-dates (ummm..updates).

Horses, Jack-O-Lanterns Share Happy Trails at Iroquois

Rumors to the contrary, Iroquois Park horse trail is NOT CLOSED.  Marty Storch, of Metro Parks, reports part of a display for an upcoming event had partially blocked a trail, but that has been fixed.

The upcoming event in the works is the Jack-O-lantern Spectacular, set to run nightly October 9th – November 2nd. It will feature 5000 pumpkins lit with LED lights, with an Around the World theme. Proceeds will go to our Parks Foundation for playground and spray ground improvements throughout our community. Kosair Charities, CVB, and Dream Foundation are all part of this pumpkin event.

Storch notes a small section of horse trail west of the Amphitheater and near a pavilion and maintenance barn will be closed later  this month to finalize work on the pumpkin display. Most horse trail riders have been very complimentary of recent work to clear and improve this path area with better drainage and materials for better footing.
