Iroquois Amphitheater
Presents
Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates
of Penzance
The classic operetta opens August 8 for a six-show run
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 18, 2013) – Iroquois Amphitheater
is proud to present Gilbert & Sullivan’s comedic operetta The Pirates of Penzance August 8–18. The story
of young love, a band of
pirates, giggling maidens and their Major-General father make up the charming
plot of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular work.
The
Pirates of Penzance cast is comprised of some of Louisville’s most versatile
actors, singers and musicians and patrons may recognize familiar faces from
last season’s H.M.S.
Pinafore. This production is directed by the co-founder of Le Petomane Theatre
Ensemble, Gregory Maupin, with local musician Scott Anthony as Music Director
and Robert McFarland as choreographer. Lead roles are filled by Tony Pursley as
Frederic and Abigail Maupin as Mabel. John Youngblood, a Kentucky Opera chorus
regular, takes the stage as the “very modern” Major-General.
“After the fun and success of last year’s H.M.S. Pinafore, we knew we wanted to
bring Greg back and another hit from the amphitheater’s early days made perfect
sense,” said amphitheater manager, Mike Slaton. “Since we’re celebrating 75
years this year, we’ve got some fun ways to turn back the clock and take the
audience back to a vaudeville music hall.”
“Iroquois Amphitheater Presents” launched in the 2012 season
as a way to offer high-quality local productions and talent to the neighborhood
and community. Since 2012, this series has presented 10 free or low-cost
entertainment events for the Louisville community.
“Louisville Metro Parks is very proud to oversee the
management of this theater, and we encourage everyone to enjoy all the programs
and events this community treasure has to offer during its 75th
anniversary season,” said Parks Director Mike Heitz.

What if the Ohio River was
lined with sandy beaches, from Valley Station to Prospect?
What if you could get to
Cincinnati, Indianapolis or Lexington in 45 minutes without ever getting in a
car?
What if every child in
Louisville could walk or bike to school safely?
These are some of the ideas
beginning to surface in the Vision Louisville project as Mayor Greg
Fischer seeks in input for how the city should look, feel and flow over the
next 25 years.
Vision Louisville is a
community project to guide the future of Louisville and shape the built
environment -- and the mayor is seeking input in numerous ways, from physical
community meetings to virtual Twitter sessions.
“Louisville is constantly
growing and changing,” Mayor Fischer said about the project. “Over the next 25
years we will see significant change, and we want input from the community on
what those changes should be and how our city should look, feel and flow.”
Vision Louisville is
seeking public input in seven categories: economy, energy, connectivity,
creativity, health, living and identity. A committee of citizens has been
formed around each category to seek community ideas.

To Whom It May Concern:
Meadowlawn Baptist Church will be hosting our first annual Back to School Bash August 10, 2013 from 11am-5pm. In celebration of furthering the children’s educational experience and with your help, we would like to be a resource for them. Many children in Southwest Louisville struggle with obtaining school supplies and we are requesting your help by being a solution to this problem. We have planned a fun filled day of games, music, food, a fire truck tour, and with your help, the largest school supply give away the city has seen.
As our administration begins to make plans for our Back to School Bash, we are requesting contributions from area businesses. Any donation your business could generously contribute would be greatly appreciated. We will be more than happy to issue you the necessary paperwork for tax purposes upon request.
We are asking that any and all donations be made by August 1st. To make it even more convenient, we are willing to make pick-ups each Saturday for entire month of July.
We look forward to hearing back from you and appreciate any and all assistance as we together spread the love and share the joy of giving back to the community.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at (502) 609-0455.
Sincerely,
William A Hodge Sr.-Pastor
