Another update from KYTC (Kentucky Transportation Cabinet) regarding the paving delays on Frankfort Avenue.
Our contractor will be paving approaches to Frankfort Avenue and the railroad crossings on Tuesday (07/02) and Wednesday (07/03) of this week. Weather permitting, paving work between Bayly Avenue and Mellwood Avenue will begin on Friday, July 5. Paving operations will continue the week of July 8. Lane closures are possible during these operations on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Paving is NOT scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday of this coming weekend.
Parking restrictions will be in place weekdays from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. This gives the contractor opportunity to sweep the roadway prior to lane closures paving and have time for necessary clean up afterwards.
The contractor will not be working on Thursday, July 4. However, the no parking signs will be left in place that day because the contractor does not want to remove all 140 of them on Wednesday evening and then have to put them back on Thursday evening. We also did not want to incur the expense of creating special signs just for the holiday. The contractor will not be asking law enforcement to tow vehicles on Thursday.
If you have any questions regarding this project please contact Ms. Andrea Clifford, Public Information Officer, at 210-5403.

We are sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced during the paving of Frankfort Avenue. We have tried to provide as much advanced notice as possible about our contractor’s work schedule.
I have spoken with our project manager who told me that the NO PARKING signs were installed Friday evening between 6 and 9 PM. This was done so that patrons could park in this area during the early part of the evening before work began at midnight. KYTC and our contractor have adjusted the work schedule for the Frankfort Avenue paving as much as possible to avoid business impacts. We have been communicating with Councilwoman Pugh’s office for the last three weeks to reduce impacts while still accomplishing our work. We worked around the Frankfort Avenue Trolley Hop this past Friday by asking our contractor to delay work until after midnight when technically their contract allows them to have lane closures beginning at 8 PM.
This project was originally a night-time work only project, but we changed it to have day-time work as well because we didn’t want the residents on Frankfort Avenue to listen to milling operations all night long. We tried moving the work to weekend only, but this conflicted once again with various functions scheduled along the corridor.
Parking is currently restricted weekdays from 6 AM to 6 PM. These signs will be removed as we complete sections of paving. Paving operations were suspended today due to the rain this morning. We currently do not have any paving scheduled for this coming weekend.
For your future use, please know that we provide information about construction projects on our webpage at http://transportation.ky.gov/District-5/Pages/District-5-Traffic-Advisories.aspx and on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5.
If you have any questions regarding this project please contact Ms. Andrea Clifford, Public Information Officer, at 210-5403.
