New Cut Trolley Hop Returns This Weekend!

New Cut Trolley Hop

 On Saturday, April 27th from 10:00am to 4:00pm the New Cut Trolley Hop returns serving the South Points Scenic Gateway.  Destinations on the route include:

  • Little Loomhouse --home of the world famous "Happy Birthday Song" & Historic Weaving Cabins.  This Saturday the Little Loomhouse will feature a family friendly Salt Dyed Silk Scarf project with Sally Moss and Sculptural Basketry demonstrations with Dennis Shaffner.  Visitors can also tour the three historical cabins and weave a souvenir mug rug on Little Looms in the weaving studio.  $10 grab bags of vintage yarn will be for sale. Gift shop open!
  •  Fairdale Library Exhibit – The Miniatures Club Exhibit- Woodworking Dollhouses, Outdoor buildings, etc.
  •  JMF Welcome Center - Nature Play Area/Fishing Tom Wallace Lake/Hiking Trails
  •  Restaurants & Shopping along the way—Buy Local!

**Iroquois Park will be closed due to KY Derby Festival Marathon until 12 noon. Alternate parking is available at Kenwood Heights Christian Church, the Fairdale Library and area Shopping Centers during this time. Hop on/off at any TARC/Trolley stop along the route!


Derby Marathon Street Closures Alert

On April 27th the following streets will be closed from 7:30pm until 4:00pm:

3rd Street – from Central Ave. to Southern Parkway

3rd Street – from Central Avenue to Main Street

Southern Parkway – from 3rd St. to New Cut Road

Iroquois Park (The Park will close at 7:00am)

Taylor Blvd. – from Huntoon to Kenwood (Cross Traffic will be allowed)

Breckenridge Street – from 3rd to Barret Avenue

Eastern Pkwy - from Barret Ave to Baxter Avenue

Barret Ave - from Breckenridge St. to Eastern Pkwy

Baxter Avenue – from Eastern Pkwy to Main Street

CROSS TRAFFIC WILL BE ALLOWED AT ALL INTERSECTIONS WHEN IT WILL NOT AFFECT THE RACE!

Marathon - Central Ave. (East) (Close: 7:00 AM)

RACE SPLIT! - Right (South) on 3rd Street (Route will be divided with bike rack

and cones along the middle yellow lines) (Close: 7:00 AM)

Continue (South) on Southern Parkway to Iroquois Park (Close: 7:00 AM)

Enter Iroquois Park at Southern Parkway and Taylor Blvd. (Close: 7:00 AM)

Run counter clockwise around Iroquois Park (Close: 7:00 AM)

Continue around Iroquois Park and

Exit at Southern Parkway / New Cut Road (Close: 7:00 AM)

Rascals of Ragtyme: April 29th

Join us Monday, April 29th at 12 noon for The Rascals of Ragtyme, who will play their unique style of music at the Fairdale Playtorium. Come by, get in the Derby mood and hear Call to the Post, Hello Dolly, Mack the Knife and many more classics! Plenty of room to dance if you feel the Derby Spirit! The Playtorium is located at 10616 W. Manslick Road (behind the new Fairdale Library). Open to the community!


28th Annual Ramble for the Roses

Ramble for the Roses

The 28th Annual Kentucky Derby Festival Ramble for the Roses is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Iroquois Park near the playground.  The mini-festival and cookout will take place from 4-8 pm.  The Walk/Fun Run will begin at 6 pm. The Ramble for the Roses, first held in 1986 by Holy Rosary Academy, features a non-competitive 5K run/walk through beautiful Iroquois Park. The walk begins and ends at the Ramble Mini-Festival, located next to the playground and tennis courts off New Cut Road. Come out & join your neighbors & friends for a wonderful South End Derby event!   Find more information or register online.
