Butchertown Demolition Notice

A group of active neighbors and businesses in the Butchertown neighborhood have raised funds to reclaim the property at 1519 Story Avenue (former Boys & Girls Club).  The area will be returned to green space which will be open to the public.  The property at 1519 Story Avenue was in a great state of disrepair and Metro Parks did not have the funds to make improvements on the vacant property.  Since the property is not older than 65 years and the building is listed as a non-contributing structure, there is no required public notification for the demolition. The group, however, wanted to ensure folks knew about the upcoming demolition.

PROJECT SCHEDULE: The preliminary schedule is that the asbestos abatement will begin the week of March 11th and should take approximately 2 weeks.  After the abatement has been done and final air testing has been completed, the contractor should be cleared to begin the demolition phase during the second week of April or sooner.  Please keep in mind this is a preliminary schedule and may be subject to change.  For more information contact Parks Community Relations.

  • Member of the Metro Area Chamber of Commerce (GLI)
