Councilman Yates to open southwest office location

Councilman Yates invites you to the opening of the Southwest Regional Metro Council Office on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m. The new office will allow area residents better access to council services and access to their representatives in their own neighborhood. The office is a partnership of Council members Rick Blackwell (12), Bob Henderson (14), Vicki Welch (13) and Yates. It will be located in the Southwest Government Center at 7219 Dixie Highway. The office will offer extended office hours and will be staffed by various council staff.
Project HOPE  

Home repair services available for needy, volunteers needed

Project Hope, an outreach program of Valley View Church, is a group of volunteers committed to helping individuals and families who are unable, because of financial reasons, to help themselves in providing essential repairs to their homes, and in some cases, their automobiles. Those that would qualify for assistance from Project Hope include the elderly, disabled, and single parents that meet a minimum income guideline and who hold a title for any property to be repaired. All repairs will be provided with no cost to the applicant. Assistance is available to those individuals living in zip codes 40214, 40258, 40272, 40216 and 40119.

Spring schedule available for Metro Arts Center

Metro Arts Center at 8360 Dixie Highway offers classes for children and adults in the fine and applied arts. If you’re looking to acquire or refine a particular artistic skill from guitar playing and cartooning to pottery and silversmithing - the Metro Arts Center has a fun, affordable class for you. Click to Junk drop-off day scheduled for April 17

Residents wanting to get rid of bulk waste or junk will have an opportunity to drop off items at the Waste Management Outer Loop Landfill on April 17 at 2673 Outer Loop, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The service is FREE to Louisville Metro residents.
Items that would not normally be picked up during regular garbage service, such as appliances, furniture and mattresses will be accepted, but metal must be separated for recycling purposes.
Yard waste, hazardous materials, paint, tires and commercial trash will NOT be allowed for drop off at the landfill April 17.
Bulk waste and junk can also be disposed of for free throughout the year at the Waste Reduction Center at 636 Meriwether Ave., but there is a limit of three items per drop off.
Residents wishing to get rid of paints, fertilizers, batteries and household chemicals at no charge can use the Louisville Metro Household Hazardous Materials Collection Center — or HAZ BIN — at 7501 Grade Lane.

Riverside to host Plant and Herb Sale April 16-17

Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing’s annual Plant and Herb Sale will be Saturday, April 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m and Sunday, April 17 from Noon to 3 p.m. An Early Bird Sale will take place on Friday, April 15 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The sale features annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, Kentucky native species, heirloom seeds and gardening items. Demonstrations on transplanting and other expert gardening advice will be provided by the Jefferson County Extension Agency and volunteers.
All proceeds support the historic gardening program at Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing and its mission to interpret historic farm life on the Ohio River. Riverside’s Garden Club maintains a kitchen garden near the Farnsley-Moremen House where volunteers grow heirloom vegetables, herbs and flowers. Interpretive programs and events about historic gardening are part of Riverside’s offerings at various times throughout the year.

Vacant, Abandoned & Underutilized Property Summit

Councilman Yates has sponsored a Vacant, Abandoned & Underutilized Property Summit on Thursday, April 28 at Memorial Auditorium. The program aims to gather residents to develop strategies to directly address the growing problem of vacant, abandoned and underutilized
