The Kentucky Transportation
Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists of interstate lane closures
on three construction projects in Jefferson County. First, lane closures
and delays are possible on the exit ramp from eastbound I-264 to US 42 (Exit
22) as part of turn lane additions and the slip ramp construction to Brownsboro
Road. A new sign truss will be installed on Thursday, October 11th
between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The entire project is currently on schedule
for completion in early November.
Second, contract crews will
be installing a new sign truss and overhead signs on southbound Interstate 265
(Gene Snyder Freeway) between Shelbyville Road and I-64 (mile point 26.8 and
25.4). This work is the final piece of the interchange improvement
project. Lane closures and delays are possible from 8:00 p.m. on
Thursday, October 11th until 5:00 a.m. the following morning.
Finally, contract crews will
have lane closures on I-71 and I-264 (Watterson Expressway) as part of the
project to construction acceleration and deceleration lanes at this
interchange. Lane closures are possible from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday,
October 11th until 5:00 a.m. the following morning on eastbound
I-264 between US 42 and I-71 (mile points 22.1 and 22.9) for removal of barrier
wall. During this same time frame, crews will be installing traffic
counting loops on northbound I-71 near the Lime Kiln Lane overpass (mile point
5.8).
In addition, lane closures
are scheduled this weekend to pave the final asphalt surface on this
interchange project. I-71 will be reduced to one lane in both directions
between I-264 and the Lime Kiln Lane overpass (mile points 5.0 and 5.8).
These lane closures are scheduled from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12th
until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15th. The exit ramps from
I-71 South to I-264 West (Exit 5) and I-264 East to I-71 North (Exit 23A) may
be closed for a brief period to complete the work. During this time, signs and
message boards will be utilized to detour drivers via Zorn Avenue (Exit
2). The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
(KYTC) recently awarded a contract for bridge deck rehabilitation on Interstate
265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) in Jefferson County. Work began this week to
perform deck repairs and apply a concrete overlay to the bridge over KY 22
(mile point 34.0).
Two lanes of traffic will be
maintained in each direction during the majority of the construction
work. Lanes will be shifted and the roadway shoulders utilized for
driving lanes. Some lane closures will be necessary during the set-up
phase of these traffic shifts. Lane closures will not be allowed on
weekdays 7-9 AM and 3-6 PM.
The speed limit in the work zone
will be reduced to 55 MPH and double fines will be enforced.
Approximately 70,000 vehicles travel
this section of I-265 each day. Motorists are urged to slow down in the
work zone and pay attention to all traffic control signs.
Hall Contracting of Louisville, KY
was awarded the construction contract in the amount of $598,496. Work is
scheduled for completion by November 15, 2012.

Initiative
in support of the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure
To
show its support of the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure and breast cancer
research, TARC will allow anyone wearing pink on Saturday, October 13 to ride
public transportation for free throughout Louisville.
“TARC
would like to do what it can to support the Race For The Cure and help make it
a successful event,” said J. Barry Barker, Executive Director of TARC. “To that
end, we’re going to offer participants – and anyone wearing pink – a safe,
convenient way to get there for free.”
The
17th Annual Race For The Cure, which includes a 5K and 10K
run/walks, a one-mile family walk and race sponsor village and Kids FunZone
area, will take place at 9 a.m. on Oct. 13 at Iroquois Park.
The race route begins at the park entrance near Kenwood Drive and New Cut Road.
Race
officials are encouraging participants to carpool to designated parking sites
north of the park in addition to riding TARC to reduce traffic congestion
around the event area. For more information on those parking sites, visit www.komenlouisville.org.
TARC
offers two routes – Route #4 and Route #6 – that provide direct service to Iroquois Park. These routes pick up passengers in
downtown, Old Louisville, the Churchill Downs area and other points in south Louisville. Visit www.ridetarc.org
for more information.
Again,
while routes #4 and #6 can get riders to the Race For The Cure, anyone wearing
pink on Oct. 13 can ride TARC throughout Louisville
that day.
