The
inaugural New Cut Road Trolley Hop will operate this Saturday, July 28, from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m., with stops at nearly 40 landmarks, shops and restaurants in
south and southwest Louisville. The hop route connects the historic Iroquois
Amphitheater, site of the annual Kentucky Music Weekend festival that Saturday,
with the Jefferson |
Memorial Forest Welcome Center. Stops along the route include the Little Loomhouse; the Auburndale
Village Shopping Center, the Outer Loop Center and the new Fairdale Library.
Passengers
can park their cars at those locations or at the Kenwood Heights Christian
Church, 5610 New Cut Road, or the Fairdale Playtorium, which is located behind
the library. They also can board the trolley at any designated TARC stop. There
is no charge to ride the trolley. Thanks to my fellow South End Metro Council
members Blackwell (D-12), Henderson (D-14), Butler (D-15), Johnson (D-21) and
Yates (D-25 for joining me in sponsoring this new South Louisville attraction.
This weekend’s Kentucky Music Weekend is also free and open to the public
except for a request for $10 donation at the evening concerts.
Many
sites along the trolley hop route are planning special events and/or
attractions throughout the day. The Little Loomhouse, located at 328 Kenwood
Hill Road, boasts the biggest repository of original and classic textile
patterns in the United States, and will have its three onsite cabins open for
tour as well including antique weaving looms. The Fairdale Library will have
special crafts for the kids and the Jefferson Memorial Forest will have a
Family Canoe Day on Tom Wallace Lake from 10am to 2pm, canoe rental $10
includes paddles and life vests.
