"With pride, we make public spaces friendly and vibrant for the communities we serve."
Thank you to the Community Ambassadors for their work in the Woodlawn Business District.
They help keep the area clean, support local businesses, and connect business owners with programs and resources that can help them succeed.
Earlier this month, I've also asked for additional attention along Southland Boulevard, particularly near Rutherford Elementary and Iroquois Manor, because cleaner streets help create neighborhood pride and encourage others to do the same.
I'll continue working with city agencies and supporting community cleanup efforts to keep our neighborhoods and business districts looking their best.
Better neighborhoods start with all of us doing our part.

Do you have a very particular set of skills? Are you a seamstress, tinkerer, or tech nerd? Perhaps you have the innate fix-it know-how that comes with parenthood. Whatever it is you know how to do, the kNOw Waste Education team needs you!
Louisville Tool Library is bringing the fall 2026 Repair Fair! On November 14, community members can bring their broken items to the Cyril Allgeier Community Center, and our team of handy volunteers will teach them how to fix it.
What kind of stuff, you ask? That will depend on the kind of volunteers we get. Register as a volunteer today to show off your skills and to help us keep good stuff out of the landfill.
Got a wobbly bike? A favorite shirt in need of stitching? A small appliance that just won’t cooperate? Before you toss it, bring it to the Repair Fair!
kNOw Waste Louisville’s Repair Fair is happening Saturday, November 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cyril Allgeier Community Center — and it’s your chance to give your well-loved items a second life.
Thanks to talented volunteer fixers, Louisville Repair Fair is offering repairs for a wide range of items, including bikes, clothing and sewing projects, small appliances, jewelry, instruments, woodworking, metalsmithing, and more. Whether it’s something practical or sentimental, there’s a good chance someone will be able to help.
Every item repaired means money saved, waste diverted from the landfill, and one less thing headed for replacement. Plus, you’ll get to meet skilled volunteers and neighbors who believe in fixing what we have and making it last.
So gather up those items that need a little TLC and join us this weekend. Let’s repair, reuse, and keep Louisville a little greener — together.
I recently filed a resolution supporting honorary street signs at South 3rd Street and West Amherst Avenue to honor the memories of Kimberly Asa and her grandfather, Louisnes “Lou” Fedon, who tragically lost their lives in the UPS crash last November.
Lou, a District 21 resident, was known as a neighborhood dad whose positivity, kindness, and contagious laughter brought people together. Kimberly, just three years old, was a bright, joyful little girl who loved to dance, sing, and make others smile.
While we can never replace the loved ones we've lost, these honorary street signs will help keep Lou and Kimberly's memories alive in our community. Next week, I'll have the honor of presenting their family with a proclamation at Metro Council, recognizing their lives and the joy they brought to so many people. I'll also share details about the street sign unveiling as soon as Public Works finalizes the date and time.
I am especially inspired by Kimberly's family, whose creation of the ASA Love Foundation keeps her memory alive by supporting children and families in need.
Please join me in celebrating the lives of Lou and Kimberly through this meaningful tribute. Their love, light, and the impact they had on so many lives will continue to be felt throughout our community for years to come.

The Beechmont Women’s Club is growing into its next chapter as the Beechmont Social Club, a welcoming neighborhood gathering place built on a rich history of community connection. This revitalized space focuses on bringing neighbors together through shared meals, meetings, and mutual support.
Neighbors can look forward to an exciting lineup of community-driven initiatives, including:
- Pop-Up Restaurants: Get ready for monthly community meals! There will be both sit-down and take-home options, keeping a classic local tradition alive.
- Yard Sales & Job Support: Monthly yard sales are coming back to support neighbors with young children who need flexible hours and career support.
- Community Hub: Partnering with the Neighbor Network Initiative to give everyone a reliable space to meet up, collaborate, and solve local problems together.
- Space Rentals: The team is currently figuring out logistics like safety and insurance so that neighbors can eventually rent out the building for private events and parties.
A ton of work is going on behind the scenes to get everything ready for a thoughtful reopening, and community support is more important than ever!
This fall, consider taking a break from raking and leaf blowing. Fallen leaves provide valuable overwintering habitat for many insects, including important pollinators. Removing or mulching leaves can destroy beneficial insect larvae and eliminate critical habitat. If you'd prefer a tidier yard, rake or blow leaves into a pile around the base of a tree and leave them there through the season.
Keep leaves out of the street
Please do not blow leaves into roadways. When Street Sweeping signs are posted, keeping streets clear allows crews to efficiently collect naturally fallen leaves and maintain safe road conditions. Large piles of leaves intentionally placed in the street will not be collected.

The Enhanced School Zone Schools in JCPS Harvest of Reading Literacy Festival invites individuals and organizations to support literacy and family engagement across 23 JCPS schools at the Academy At Shawnee. Businesses, community organizations, and residents are encouraged to participate by hosting a booth, providing giveaways or food, or reading to students. Together, they can strengthen literacy, inspire a love of reading, and connect families in some of Louisville’s most vulnerable school communities with valuable resources.

As momentum builds behind the Louisville Loop, this event is bringing people together to celebrate the progress made, strengthen connections and share our vision for the future of this important community asset.
Enjoy good food, great company and a relaxing walk along the Louisville Loop! Join us Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 5:30 p.m. at Mike Linnig's Derby Room, 9308 Cane Run Road.
This is a great opportunity to connect with others, explore a scenic section of the Loop and learn more about its history, progress and what's ahead.
Getting vaccinated is about to become even more convenient. This fall, our Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness’ (LMPHW) Immunizations Program is putting its Mobile Vaccine Van in gear, bringing vaccination services directly into the community. From neighborhood events and festivals to schools and workplaces, the Mobile Vaccine Van is giving our team another way to reach residents where they are.
Louisville residents will be able to visit the traveling clinic at Food Truck Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 21. Stop by South Fourth Street between Jefferson and Market streets to enjoy lunch from local food trucks while taking advantage of an opportunity to receive your flu vaccine with no appointment required.
The van will also make mobile vaccination events easier for staff. Temperature-regulated refrigeration and freezer units will allow for easier vaccine storage and transport to events. Instead of hauling vaccine coolers, tables, chairs and other supplies to each location in hot or cold weather, the team will be able to keep many of the essentials ready to go, cutting down on preparation and heavy lifting.
To schedule an appointment at the LMPHW Immunizations Clinic, call 502-574-5380.
Organizations interested in hosting an immunization clinic can learn more and submit a request through our website.
 Every Thursday up until November 19 | 5:30 - 6:30 P.M.

Don't miss the final Pop-Up Drop-Off event of the year on Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UofL's Shelby Campus. In addition to the materials normally accepted at the events, they will be offering a special opportunity to recycle household batteries, which are not typically accepted at Pop-Up Drop-Off events.
Whether you're cleaning out a garage, decluttering before the holidays, or holding onto old batteries you've been meaning to recycle, this is a great opportunity to divert even more material from the landfill and ensure items are managed responsibly.
