Food Pantry Volunteers Needed
UCHM is seeking a volunteer to manage the Food Pantry check-in process on Thursdays from 1:00–4:00 p.m. This volunteer will help pantry visitors check in and schedule their next appointments. Ideal volunteers should be comfortable using an online check-in system and able to multitask.
We are also looking for additional volunteers to help visitors shop, create a welcoming and friendly environment, and provide support throughout the shopping process. Afternoon volunteer shifts are available Monday through Thursday from 1:00–4:00 p.m.
Prefer to work behind the scenes? Morning volunteers are needed from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. to help stock and organize fresh produce, bread, canned goods, and other donated items.
 The Office for Women Ambassadors is a six-month training program for women and gender diverse individuals who represent the diverse communities across Metro Louisville. Through the program, participants will develop and hone their leadership skills, learn about issues impacting women, and explore government and community programs available to women. The OFW Ambassadors will serve as community liaisons, sharing out information about vital community services and communicating back to government about the needs of women in their communities. When The Dot Experience opens Friday, October 30 at American Printing House (APH), one of the galleries visitors will step into highlights the life and work of Helen Keller. A Helen Keller’s office where she worked from 1947 until her death in 1968 anchors a gallery where visitors can explore a life-size figure of Keller, touch her desk, a tactile replica of her brailler and objects from her office, including her typewriter, braille clock and telephone.
The gallery offers a glimpse of Keller as a writer, working woman and advocate. Visitors can explore braille books, a tactile replica of her Oscar and other objects while learning more about her connection to the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) and APH’s role in preserving her legacy.

The National Jug Band Jubilee will return to Waterfront Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, giving Louisville residents and visitors another reason to spend the weekend downtown. The 2026 National Jug Band Jubilee will take place at noon Oct. 3 in the Brown-Forman Amphitheater in Waterfront Park. It will feature jug band performances, food and craft vendors, and workshops. The Oct. 3 event marks the relaunch of the Jubilee’s full outdoor festival format. The free, family-friendly festival takes place the same weekend as the St. James Court Art Fair, Oct. 2-4, making it easy for attendees to enjoy both signature Louisville events in one trip. Jubilee organizers hope the shared weekend will encourage art fair visitors to add jug band music to their plans — and give jug band fans a chance to make a full weekend of music, art, and Louisville culture.

 Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg joined president of ISCO Industries Jimmy Kirchdorfer, First Tee of Louisville, and officials from Louisville Parks and Recreation to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of a major renovation to the youth golf course at Seneca Golf Course.
“Making golf accessible starts with giving young people welcoming, high-quality places where they can learn the game and build their confidence,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg. “We’re proud to continue investing in spaces like this where kids can pick up a club for the first time, develop their skills and hopefully discover a love for the game that stays with them for a lifetime.”
The $427,000 investment renovated Seneca’s existing nine-hole, par-3 youth course, which is creating a better environment where young golfers can learn and gain experience competing on the course through the PGA Jr. League and other youth tournaments.
Improvements were made throughout all nine holes of the youth course. The project included building one new green and replacing the grass on the other eight greens with a new variety designed to perform better. All nine holes also received new, larger teeing areas designed to improve drainage and create a better playing experience. Fairways throughout the course were improved as well.
The completion of the youth course marks the first phase of a two-phase improvement project at Seneca Golf Course. Phase 2 will focus on enhancements to the course’s practice facilities and include improvements around the existing Hole 10 tee area on Seneca’s main golf course. Approximately $450,000 in additional improvements are planned as part of the second phase.
With Phase 1 complete, the renovated youth course is ready to welcome lessons, practices, tournaments, and young golfers from across Louisville.

The Planning Commission voted 5 to 3 to recommend proposed amendments to the Land Development Code (LDC) that would ban hyperscale data centers and make significant changes regarding future data center proposals. The Commission’s recommendations will now be forwarded to Louisville Metro Council and the 12 suburban cities with zoning authority for consideration.
Prior to the September 3rd hearing, the Office of Planning received feedback on the draft regulations to ban hyperscale data centers and make strict revisions regarding future development proposals. Those regulations were presented to the Planning Commission for consideration. The Planning Commission then considered the proposed regulations during public hearing sessions (including a virtual option). During its consideration, the commission made additional amendments to even further strengthen protections for the public before voting to recommend the proposed regulations that ban hyperscale data centers and provide very detailed and strict requirements for any future proposals. Those amendments included:
- Requiring a Conditional Use Permit for data centers greater than 50,000 square feet when located in the M-1 Industrial District;
- Detailing more thorough requirements for noise studies associated with applications for data centers;
- Requiring closed loop water systems for data centers rather than encouraging their use;
- Increasing required separation between data centers and nearby sensitive uses, such as dwelling units, hospitals, and childcare centers, to as much as 1,320 feet depending on the size of the data center; and
- Establishing the minimum separation of 1,320 feet between properties containing data centers as a primary use.

The proposed regulations will next be considered by Metro Council, which will vote on whether to adopt the amendments. A hearing date has not yet been determined.
The 12 suburban cities with zoning authority will also consider the Planning Commission’s recommendations and determine whether to adopt the regulations into their respective city codes.
