   Dear neighbors,
ICYMI, a data center moratorium is finally moving. We passed it out of the Planning & Zoning committee on Tuesday and it should be before the full council next week. The community hearings continue on the Department of Planning's revised regulations (more information farther down).
I've got some behind-the-scenes meetings coming up to tackle some intractable issues in our area: with the Mega Cavern and LMPD around Lights Under Louisville traffic, with One Louisville about rehabbing some of our business corridors, and with Louisville Parks & Rec about some transformative updates to our parks. Every performance review I've ever had at a job has said she is impatient — still true in this role!
I also want to wish a happy back to school to all the students (and parents!!) at the phenomenal schools in our area: Audubon Elementary, Camp Taylor Elementary, Klondike Lane Elementary, Newcomer Academy, Minor Daniels, St. Agnes, St. Martha, St. Stephen Martyr, and St. X! Go get 'em this year.

Last week, my office hosted a back to school bash pool party at Camp Taylor Water Park for Camp Taylor Elementary School's students and families. Thanks to Principal Shanton and his team and the Parks and Recs aquatics crew who helped pull it off. We hear the community who wants more pool days, longer hours, and more pool parties next year - we do too!
Something colorful is coming from District 10.... stay tuned over the next few weeks as we announce a new project that has been in the works for a long time.
Calling all artists! Joe Creason Park is hosting a fashion show to highlight your creations on August 29 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The runway will extend from the gazebo in the park with seats around it and a DJ. There will also be food trucks, beer, and art vendors.

Learn about the history of Haiti with University of Kentucky's Dr. Crystal Felima. Presented as part of Celebrating Our Neighborhood with Kentucky Refugee Ministries, this program explores Haiti's complex history as the first Black Republic and the second independent country in the Western Hemisphere. Check this event out on August 29 from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM.
The Association of Community Ministries has made some changes.
Highlands Community Ministries took on the section of 40218 previously served by Ministries United of South Central Louisville. As a result the 40218 zip code is now shared by just Fern Creek Highview United Ministries and Highlands.

Highlands-Shelby Park Library is temporarily closing at the end of August as redevelopment plans for Mid City Mall get underway. Come out on August 15 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and celebrate 32 years of shared memories with live jazz music, cake and refreshments, and activities for all ages.
Park(ing) Day will return to downtown Louisville on Friday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting the community to transform ordinary parking spaces into creative public places for the day.
Park(ing) Day is part of a global movement that reimagines streets as places for people, showcasing how creative placemaking can make downtown more vibrant, welcoming and connected.
Instead of parked cars, expect to see mini parks, outdoor seating, art installations and interactive pop-up spaces throughout downtown.
Recently, it was announced mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus were found in monitoring traps in the Wyandotte/Oakdale neighborhoods near Churchill Downs.
