Check pool inspection data before you dive in
Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness' Environmental Health Administrator Ciara Warren tests the pool's water quality at a local hotel.
Before going to the pool or your favorite local water park this summer, be sure to check out water safety information on our Louisville Metro open data portal. Our team inspects more than 500 pools and spas located in city and state parks, condos, apartments, amusement parks, recreation venues, and private clubs to protect our residents and visitors.
Pools are inspected twice annually, and inspections include verifying certified lifeguards are on duty, all equipment is working properly to disinfect and filter the water, water quality is in acceptable limits, and that all safety equipment is on deck and in proper working order.
Illness outbreaks associated with recreational water are the result of exposure to chemicals or infectious pathogens such as viruses and bacteria. The most common contaminant in pools is Cryptosporidium, which can cause acute gastrointestinal illness including stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. Cryptosporidium has a high tolerance to chlorine, which allows the parasite to survive for long periods of time in chlorinated drinking and swimming water.
Water samples are collected weekly for bacteria testing and laboratory services are provided by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness.

Popular baby food sold at Target stores has been recalled due to a potential life-threatening risk
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is investigating a multistate outbreak of infant botulism linked to Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic powdered infant formula. Nara Organics has voluntarily issued a recall of the product.
The CDC and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommend that parents and caregivers immediately stop using all Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula. The product was sold at Target and at Nara Organics website.
Here's what parents and caregivers need to know:
CDC and FDA advise parents and caregivers to stop using all Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula.
- Unopened cans of Nara Organics infant formula should be thrown away or returned.
- Leftover cans of Nara Organics brand powdered infant formula should be labelled "DO NOT USE" and kept stored in a safe place away from other feeding items for at least a month.
- If no symptoms appear after a month, throw the leftover formula away.
-
Wash items and surfaces that may have touched the formula using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
-
Seek immediate health care if the infant consumed Nara Organics infant formula and has any of these symptoms:
- Poor feeding
- Loss of head control
- Difficulty swallowing
- Decreased facial expression
Symptoms of infant botulism can take several weeks to start. Parents of children who consumed Nara Organics infant formula should watch their infant for symptoms for a month after the infant last consumed the product.
Nara will automatically refund all consumers who purchased formula from their website in May and June 2026. Other customers with unused product may request a refund by completing the refund form.
