msdjimking

MSD shared a quick update with our office that the Jim King Memorial Rain Garden has been successfully replanted this week! The site has been refreshed with a diverse mix of native perennials, shrubs, and trees, and we are excited to see these plantings establish and flourish in the coming seasons.

This replanting effort will help further support stormwater management while enhancing beauty and habitat in the Germantown neighborhood - continuing the legacy the rain garden represents.

Organizing Corner Vol. XXX: District 6 Advisory Council Update

It's an exciting weekend in District 6, and our Advisory Council had a lot to do with it!

We kick off with Old Louisville LIVE! tonight from 8p-10pm headlined by The Crashers in Central Park. Saturday, the Old Louisville Farmers Market will be in their new location in Central Park, while Toonerville Trolley Park will be hosting Old Louisville Springfest. All three of these are events the Advisory Council voted to help make happen, so we're proud to see our District funds being put to such great use. Our Place in Ben Washer Park will also have their Neighborhood Treasures Market and Jazz Cafe, and TARC will have a shuttle loop available to help families see it all.

Also supported by the Advisory Council, in Meriwether-Fort Hill, the Poorcastle Festival will be happening at Jubilee Field with proceeds going to the Louisville Leopard Percussionists, AMPED, and Out Loud Louisville.

This busy weekend kicks off a lot of support for District 6 that the Advisory Council has democratically decided on. Families from all over District 6 and beyond enjoy the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in Central Park all summer, and the Advisory Council voted to help Keep Will Free by doubling this year's contribution. Just last night, the rest of the Metro Council voted to add significantly to our legislation to fund the 2026 H.E.R.O Run, completely fulfilling the amount asked for so that the funds raised at the run, walk & ruck race would go towards their mission rather than putting the event on. The Advisory Council has also recently voted to support summer youth programs in Shelby Park, and community events at the Park Hill Community Center and at the ACE Project.

At the next District-wide meeting, the members of the Advisory Council will be working together to decide how to spend some infrastructure funds left over from completed projects. I'm excited to see our neighbors come together from across the District to figure out what we can do that benefits people in every neighborhood.

Now that the Advisory Council has settled into a routine, we're excited that all District 6 residents are now eligible to attend and vote in the neighborhood level meetings and decide how they'll be represented at the District-wide meeting. The next neighborhood level meetings will take place in July, so keep an eye out in upcoming newsletters and our official social media for announcements of time, locations, and agendas.

In the meantime, get out there and enjoy District 6 this weekend!

Solidarity,

Councilman JP Lyninger
