Reporting Potholes

potholes

Since January 1, Louisville Metro Roads and Maintenance crews have filled more than 17,200 potholes across the city following a demanding winter season.

After serving on Snow Team operations during winter storms, crews transitioned directly into pothole repairs and have been working every day — and often overnight — in traffic and challenging weather conditions to help keep streets safe and passable.

This work requires long hours, physical effort, and a strong commitment to public safety. The dedication of these crews is what keeps Louisville Metro moving.

You can report potholes by:

Massage Facilities Ordinance

massage

Louisville Metro Government announced this week that all massage facilities in Jefferson County must now obtain a local license under Louisville Metro Ordinance (LMCO) 115.170. The requirement applies to any business offering therapeutic, relaxation, or other massage services. Certain providers—such as licensed medical professionals, state licensed health facilities, and recognized massage schools—are exempt under the ordinance.

The new licensing system strengthens public safety, establishes consistent sanitation standards, and helps prevent illicit massage businesses that often serve as fronts for trafficking and exploitation. Inspectors will also be trained on how to spot possible human trafficking and provide information to possible victims.

“Implementing clear licensing requirements ensures the safety of both clients and workers,” said Connie Mendel, director of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and chief health strategist. “These standards help us maintain clean, sanitary, and professional environments across all legitimate massage facilities.”

Licensing Process

Massage facilities have until June 1, 2026, to apply for a provisional license, which will allow them to operate while zoning reviews and inspections are completed.

  • Provisional license fee: $50
  • Permanent license fee: $150

Applications can be started by creating an account at: https://aca-prod.accela.com/LJCMG/

“Our goal is to support lawful, responsible businesses while giving our enforcement teams the tools needed to identify and shut down those operating outside the law,” said Brad Silveria, director of Louisville Metro Alcohol Beverage Control. “This licensing process helps us protect neighborhoods and hold bad actors accountable.”

Additional Requirements

Licensed facilities must meet general health and safety standards, maintain appropriate records, display required licenses and signage on human trafficking and victims’ rights, and remain open to inspections by authorized Louisville Metro officials.

Addressing Illicit Massage Facilities

Illicit operations often disguise themselves as legitimate businesses while engaging in human trafficking, exploitation, and violations of labor and safety laws. The new licensing structure strengthens the city’s ability to find and address these operations and provide information to possible victims of human trafficking.

“The passage and implementation of our anti-human trafficking law is about making our community safer and doing what we can to stop the practice of exploiting others,” said Councilman Jeff Hudson, District 23. “This ordinance is part of a greater push by me and colleagues within council to bring forward policies that will improve safety and protect our neighbors. I thank the members of the Human Trafficking Task Force, the Mayor and his administration, the health department as well as the countless persons within the massage and recovery industry who have led in the creation of this application portal. This will help us weed out the bad actors from the hundreds of good businesses serving a real need.”

Residents or landlords who suspect an illicit massage facility may report concerns to Metro311 (311 or 502-574-5000).

To report suspected human trafficking or learn more about victim services, contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline. https://humantraffickinghotline.org/en or1-888-373-7888

Kentucky's Safe Teen Driving Challenge returns for 2026

safe

Team Kentucky is launching the second Safe Teen Driving Challenge — a program designed to encourage safer driving habits while giving young drivers the chance to earn cash prizes.

The need is real. In just the past three years, Kentucky has experienced more than 49,000 crashes involving teen drivers, leading to over 13,000 injuries and nearly 200 lives lost. Programs like this aim to change that by helping teens build better habits behind the wheel early on.

Open to drivers ages 15 to 19 with a valid permit or license, the challenge uses the DriveWell Go app to track driving behaviors such as speed, braking, and phone use. Teens can monitor their progress, see how they rank, and learn how small changes can make a big difference in staying safe on the road.

Participants will also have the opportunity to win one of five cash prizes totaling $10,000, with the top prize set at $3,000.

Registration is open through April 16, with driving performance tracked from April 17 through July 17. Winners will be announced in August, and their schools will also be recognized.

Beyond the prizes, the real goal is building awareness and encouraging responsible driving habits that last a lifetime — helping protect not only young drivers, but everyone who shares the road.

Public Meeting- Louisville Freight Action Plan

semi
Louisville Metro’s Department of Transportation is hosting three open house meetings where you can take a look at the proposed freight route network across Jefferson County. These meetings are a chance for residents and freight operators to see the draft plan, ask questions, and share feedback before anything is finalized. This work is part of the Freight Mobility Action Plan, developed in partnership with HDR Engineering. The goal is simple figure out how freight moves through our community, reduce the impact on neighborhoods, and create safer, more efficient truck routes across Louisville Metro. Your voice matters in this. Feedback from the community will help shape how this plan moves forward and how we balance freight traffic with the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Distracted Driving Awareness Month

PHONE

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and this year’s message is clear: Put the Phone Away or Pay.

Distracted driving remains one of the most preventable dangers on our roadways. In 2023 alone, 3,275 lives were lost nationwide due to distraction-related crashes. Even a quick glance at your phone can take your eyes, hands, and attention off the road long enough to cause serious consequences.

In Louisville, this message is especially important as our Public Works crews work in and around traffic every day. Staying focused behind the wheel helps protect not only yourself, but also the people working to maintain and improve our streets.

We encourage everyone to take simple steps to drive distraction-free:

  • Put your phone away before you start driving.
  • If you must text or respond, pull over to a safe location and park first.
  • Remember that distracted driving includes texting, social media, and any activity that takes your attention off the road.
  • Use “Do Not Disturb,” silence notifications, or place your phone out of reach.
  • Ask a passenger to be the “designated texter” if needed.
  • Stay alert in work zones and around crews working near roadways.
  • Speak up if you see unsafe behavior.

Distracted driving isn’t just about awareness — it’s about accountability. Choosing to stay focused can prevent crashes, protect lives, and keep our roads safer for everyone.

Take the pledge to make every trip a distraction-free trip.

Actors Theatre- Wave After Wave

actors

In this expansive journey through two intertwined lives, Sean and Nathanael, cousins born just weeks apart, reconnect on the same beach each year as they grow from building sandcastles to navigating the tides of adulthood. They swim in the ocean, eat carne asada, and witness their paths, their bodies, and the natural world changing while time rolls forward. Spanning a century in the ten-billion-year lifespan of the planet with breathtakingly poetic theatrical imagination, Wave After Wave is both an exploration of human and ecological transformation and the story of a tender, complicated bond between men.

Running April 1–12 as part of the Storytelling Revolution Festival!
