Dear Neighbor,
Now that we have Sprung Forward with our clocks and are looking forward to brighter and warmer days, I hope we all will take a moment to review important safety tips as we clean up after the winter months, and have more activities, playdates, and time outside with friends and neighbors.
We also may be embarking upon some spring cleaning. Please make sure you dispose of waste in responsible ways. For those who live in the Urban Services District, remember to schedule appointments for large item pick ups rather than simply setting certain items out with your trash. You can find more about the rules for yard waste and large item set out here.
Also, I'd like to get an early note on your calendar for the upcoming performance of William Shakespeare's The Tempest in Farnsley Park on Thursday, April 12th at 6:30pm. There will be more information on rain out locations or other considerations in coming eNews.
Enjoy the weekend,
Brent T. Ackerson 26th District Councilman

What is a Change of Use permit?
A change of use permit is required in Louisville whenever a property’s use shifts from one type to another – like converting a retail space into a restaurant or a warehouse into offices – even if no construction is planned. These permits are issued by Construction Review, a division of the Department of Codes and Regulations.
- Different uses have different safety, building code, and zoning requirements.
- Examples: Turning a house into a short-term rental, a warehouse into a gym, or a church into an event venue.
Apply online through Louisville Metro’s Accela Citizen Access portal. City staff will review for code, zoning, and safety compliance before approval. If you are not a licensed contractor with Louisville Metro, please visit the Construction Review office at 444 S. 5th Street to apply. Questions? Visit LouisvilleKY.gov/Construction or call (502) 574-3321.

Our office routinely publishes information on upcoming public meetings and regarding planning and zoning cases in and around District 26. Our posting in this forum is not an official notice. This list may not be comprehensive nor does it include other zoning matters decided upon by zoning authorities other than Louisville Metro Government.
While we intended to expand the scope of our zoning notices, our office reverted to the former policy of relaying the information we receive from Planning and Zoning. We are limited by ordinance and state law to provide the publicly available information.
