Every street improvement, sidewalk connection, and signal upgrade is the result of engineering in action.
During National Engineers Week, Feb. 22 – 28, we celebrate the professionals who help shape how Louisville Metro moves. This year’s theme, “Transform Your Future,” reflects the impact our engineers have — not just planning projects, but transforming how residents travel safely and efficiently every day.
At Louisville Metro Public Works and the Department of Transportation, engineers lead the planning and design of roadway, sidewalk, and signal projects that improve safety and mobility throughout Louisville Metro. Their expertise directly influences how efficiently and safely people travel across our city.
Recent projects across Louisville Metro demonstrate how thoughtful engineering strengthens connections between neighborhoods, improves walkability, and supports economic activity along key corridors. Behind each completed roadway or sidewalk project is careful planning, data analysis, collaboration, and a commitment to long-term performance.
Engineering at Public Works is about more than plans and calculations — it’s about building infrastructure that supports daily life and keeps Louisville moving forward. During Engineers Week, we thank our engineering team for their dedication, innovation, and commitment to transforming our city one project at a time.

With the snow finally melted, litter that accumulated during weeks of winter weather is now more visible throughout the city. Louisville Metro’s Clean Collaborative crew and partner teams are actively working to catch up on debris removal along local roadways and interstates, the latter maintained through a dedicated KYTC contract.
- Cleanup efforts never stop. Crews work year‑round to remove litter, address illegal dumping, and maintain public spaces to keep our neighborhoods clean and safe.
- A cleaner Louisville is a shared effort, and small actions from residents and businesses make a meaningful impact:
- Pick up litter around your home or workplace to help keep streets and storm drains clear
- Secure trash and recycling carts by closing lids and avoiding overfilling; request repairs through Metro311 if a cart is damaged
- Report illegal dumping or litter through Metro311 for quick response
- Cover and secure truck loads to prevent debris from blowing into streets
- Avoid placing household or business trash in public receptacles, which are intended for pedestrian use only
- Join or organize a neighborhood cleanup—Brightside offers tools and support for community events
Together, we can keep Louisville’s streets safer, storm drains clearer, and neighborhoods more welcoming for everyone.
