LMPD Eighth Division Quarterly Community Meetings starting March 18th

As part of the Louisville Metro Police Department’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and transparency, the Eighth Division will host quarterly community meetings to allow residents to ask questions, and engage directly with division personnel. March 18, 2026, at the Berrytown Community Center (1300 Heafer Road) from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. June 24, 2026, at the Anchorage-Middletown Fire Station (9514 Featherbell Blvd), also from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. These meetings are part of our continued effort to strengthen partnerships, provide updates on public safety initiatives, and collaborate with residents to address concerns within the  LMPD Eighth Division.

Harbor House of Louisville is an Intergenerational Life Center that recently opened a Child Enrichment Center in the south end of Louisville. We have been serving adults with intellectual disabilities for over 30 years and just recently included children in our mission. We serve 31 zip codes and 5 different counties around the city of Louisville. We are hosting our Feathers and Friends Gala on March 21st.

Planning impacts how our neighborhoods grow, what the future of Louisville looks like, and where we live. The goal of these conversations is simple: to make the planning process clearer and easier to understand.

Metro Government looking for individuals for the Tax Appeals Board as a Hearing Officer

Louisville Metro Government is looking for individuals that would be interested in participating on the 2026 Board of Assessment aka Tax Appeals Board as a hearing officer. These hearing officers are made up of individuals that have commercial and/or residential experience.  The purpose of the hearing officers is to participate on a panel of peers to hear taxpayer appeals in protest of the assessment by the property valuation administrator and after hearing all the evidence, shall fix the assessment of the property at its fair cash value. Board member qualifications: 1.            Property Owners residing in the county at least 5 years 2.            Each member of the board shall have proven record of extensive knowledge of real estate values, preferably in real estate appraisal, sales, management, financing, or construction. 3.            Representative must be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. for 4-6 weeks in early-July through August. 4.            Compensation: Appointees will be compensated $100 per day, before taxes. Severe Weather/Heavy Rain & Flooding - Tips & Information

Severe weather in Kentucky often brings heavy rainfall and flooding. Just a small amount of water across a roadway can create dangerous conditions. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. It only takes about 12 inches of moving water to carry a small vehicle off the road, and floodwaters can hide washed-out pavement or debris beneath the surface.

When flooding occurs, the Louisville Metro Department of Transportation blocks affected roadways to protect drivers. These barricades are placed for your safety. Do not move or drive around them — doing so can put you and others at serious risk.

As we move deeper into storm season, take a few moments to review your emergency plans, check how you receive weather alerts, and talk with your family about what to do during severe weather. Preparation today can prevent tragedy tomorrow.

Safe Listening for Life!

At all ages and life stages, you can permanently damage your hearing by listening to sounds that are too loud for too long. This is called Noise Induced hearing loss or NIHL.

1 in 8 children and teens aged 6-19 years and 1 in 4 adults aged 20-69 years are estimated to have NIHL

How to Protect your Hearing:

• Wear hearing protection (earplugs, earmuffs) during loud events or activities.
• Download a sound meter app to monitor noise level in public places.
• Keep a distance of 500 feet or more from loud noise sources such as speakers.
• Use quieter products (e.g. toys, appliances, power tools)-check product reviews/ratings.
• Keep the volume to half when using earbuds or headphones.
• Consider purchasing noise-canceling earbuds or headphones, to reduce the urge to crank the volume.
• Take listening breaks every hour when using earbuds/headphones or attending loud events.
• Heed the warning signs and leave a noisy place if you have pain, ringing in the ears or difficulty hearing.
