   Dear neighbors,
This winter is nuts and driving on my street is like riding a roller coaster and I wish my kids would go to school more often too. We're in this together and we will continue to be your liaison to Public Works, Solid Waste, and other departments designed to serve our city, pushing them for the best service possible in tough environments. If budgetary investments next cycle will improve things, I'll support them.
I want to touch on something you may have heard about locally or nationally—a reduction in crime. LMPD recently reported on 2025's statistics and the numbers are heartening: homicides, non-fatal shootings, car thefts, and robberies are all down. What's not is thefts from vehicles. The major in the 6th Division tells me that trucks seem to be targeted more as offenders believe they're more likely to find guns in trucks. (Subscribe to your LMPD division newsletter for regular updates, if you'd like.)
I recently heard Chief Paul Humphrey discuss these statistics and credit his officers and their new levels of proactivity. They are still a few hundred officers below where they want to be, but I have seen proactive patrols in the Bardstown Road corridor. Of course, macro societal trends play a role too. A recent article in The Atlantic posits that American Rescue Plan-funded investments in infrastructure and services in local government played a large part. I believe it, and we continue to roll out quality of life improvements across District 10. In 2026, watch for a new playground, new bleachers, the opening of our Camp Taylor waterpark, concerts in parks, and more.
Wishing warmth and safety for you all,
It's Wild Winter Days at the Louisville Zoo and if you haven't been yet, you better go soon, because it ends on February 28.
In partnership with Kroger, visitors who bring in one canned food item or non-perishable food item (per person) to donate to Dare to Care may purchase tickets at the Zoo ticketing windows for $11 per adult and $8 per child / senior ticket. Remember that 25 cents of every admission ticket sold supports Louisville Zoo conservation efforts in Kentuckiana and around the world. This only applies to in-person purchased tickets, NOT online.
