Councilwoman Reappointed to the Commission for Persons with Disabilities

“There is no Disability Justice without the most marginalized voices being centered.” — Mary Fashik (@theblackdyslexic)

I’m honored to share that I’ve been selected by Brent Ackerson, Louisville Metro Council President, to serve a second term as the Democratic Representative on the Commission for Persons With Disabilities.

As a woman living with my third implanted pacemaker/defibrillator, and as a 20-year heart patient with progressive heart disease caused by a hereditary heart defect— one that my father and grandparents ultimately succumbed to — I am considered a person with a disability. I am blessed to be able to work and to currently have strong mobility, but I also understand that disability is not static.

One day, my abilities may change — and that lived understanding is exactly why representation matters. I have always been an advocate for the disability community, whether through policy, organizing, or simply showing up and listening. Disability justice requires us to center lived experience, to plan for accessibility before crisis, and to ensure that people with disabilities are not an afterthought in decisions that impact our city. It is truly an honor to continue serving in this role, and I remain committed to lifting up the voices, needs, and leadership of people with disabilities across Louisville.

The District 3 office has received questions regarding snow removal in our neighborhoods. Snow removal decisions are made by the administration in conjunction with Public Works and Assets. Generally, main roads are given priority. More information regarding the update of snow removal can be found here:
