Happy Thanksgiving!
November 26th, 2025
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving holiday celebrating with your family and friends. I continue to be thankful and grateful for the opportunity to serve you on Metro Council. I want to also take a moment to thank the men and women in public safety and other government departments who will be working on Thanksgiving to continue to ensure we have a safe and functioning city to support everyone in Louisville.
As I do every year, I want to share the very first Thanksgiving Proclamation by President George Washington. In words that only our first President could create, he rightfully thanks God for the creation of our nation. There are literally countless men and women, many of which we will never know their names, that we are indebted to for the creation and preservation of the United States.
Please join me in reading and reflecting on the words of our first President as we celebrate Thanksgiving.
By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.
