Hello Louisville Family,
My heart is heavy as I write this message because our community is grieving the tragic loss and devastation caused by the crash of UPS Flight 2976. To the families and loved ones of those who perished or were injured—please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. Words feel insufficient in moments like these, yet please know that you are wrapped in the thoughts and prayers of an entire city.
When news of the accident reached us, I was overcome with sadness, as I know many of you were. Tragedy has a way of stopping time—of anchoring us to a moment we never expected and never wanted. Today, Louisville weeps with you, we mourn with you, and as a community, we stand with you.
I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to our first responders. In the midst of chaos, danger, and brutal smoked-filled elements, they rushed toward the scene with professionalism, courage, and compassion. They put themselves at risk to render aid as only they can do—and as they do every day. Their bravery is a testament to their unwavering commitment to protect and serve.
I also want to thank Governor Beshear, Mayor Greenberg, Congressman McGarvey, and all who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with our community in its darkest hour. Their compassion and swift communication, along with the diligence of NTSB officials and investigators, have helped keep us informed and reassured that every available resource is being mobilized to determine what happened. Please know that teams are working tirelessly to uncover answers—to bring clarity, accountability, and closure.
As the death toll rises and the weight of grief deepens, let us remind one another that no one endures this alone. Louisville will not abandon those who need support. We will be present. We will be prayerful. We will be persistent in our care.
Louisville is not only a compassionate city—we are a resilient one. We have weathered hard storms before. We have faced heartbreaking loss, unexpected challenges, and moments that tested our souls. Yet each time, we emerged stronger, better, and more unified. We know what it means to lift one another up. We know how to link arms, look after each other, and lead with love.
We are one—a family indeed when it matters the most.
To everyone hurting today: I see you, and I am praying with you through the grief. May the memories of those we lost be a blessing, and may peace find every heart that is broken.
With compassion, strength, and unwavering love for our city,
 Louisville Metro Council, District 7

MetroTV featured District 7 to highlight home-rule cities. Home rule cities are municipalities that have adopted a city charter to govern themselves, allowing them to exercise a broad range of powers not explicitly limited by state law. This grants them greater autonomy in local matters like structural organization, taxation, and in some instances, zoning, and they operate under powers derived from their own charter instead of solely from state statutes.
Local “Wreaths Across America” Campaign Begins
Effort is underway to raise funds to place wreaths on 11,000+ veterans’ graves at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery for the Holidays
Louisville, KY, November 3, 2025 -The annual “Wreaths Across America” fundraising campaign is now underway in Louisville, with organizers hoping to match or exceed last year’s record effort.
The kickoff started today with a ceremony in the shadow of the new Veterans Administration Hospital currently under construction. More than 5,200 locations in the U.S, at sea and abroad, including Zachary Taylor National Cemetery here in Louisville, collect donations to place wreaths on veterans’ graves in December. There are 11,000+ graves at Zachary Taylor, and this year’s ambitious goal seeks to raise enough funds to place wreaths on all graves there.
“The wreaths are not to ‘decorate’ the graves of our veterans,” said Dr. Scott Giltner, location coordinator, Gov. Isaac Shelby Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. “We place them to remember not their deaths, but their lives. Each wreath is a gift of appreciation from a grateful America.”
“All of the wreaths placed on the graves at Zachary Taylor come from donations,” said Susan Kalmey Co-location coordinator, Corn Island Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. “We do this on our own with some very generous support. And we need everyone’s involvement this year to make it a reality.”
“With the new VA Hospital being constructed in my district, the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in proximity to my district, and having a WWII veteran father, I feel a special calling to assist all veterans,” added Metro Councilwoman Paula McCraney. “We owe this to those who have given so much to maintain our country’s freedom. I encourage every person in this community to support this noble cause.”
Brownsboro Hardware & Paint is one of several companies and organizations assisting with the effort. Owner Doug Carroll knows its importance. “We got involved in this effort nearly five years ago. From the very beginning, we saw how crucial this effort is to honor our veterans. I challenge every business, every club and organization and every church to adopt this campaign as a mission.”
A wreath can be sponsored for $17, either online at LouKYWreaths.org or in person at either Brownsboro Hardware & Paint location.
The fundraising effort will continue through December 1, at which time the live Maine Balsam Wreaths will be ordered and shipped. They will be placed during an official ceremony at Zachary Taylor on Saturday, December 13 at 12:00 noon. All are welcome. In addition, volunteers are needed to assist with logistics both before and during the campaign. Volunteers may register at LouKYWreaths.org.
Wreaths Across America is a national organization which started in 2007. Its mission: Remember the fallen. Honor those that serve. And Teach the next generation about the value of freedom. The organization placed more than 2.5 million wreaths at more than 5,200 locations in 2024. For more information on the organization, visit LouKYWreaths.org

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Warns of New Text Message “Property Tax” Scam
Louisville, KY – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is again alerting the public to an active scam currently circulating in our community during tax season.
Last week, the Sheriff’s Office warned of scam phone calls where individuals falsely identified themselves as Sheriff’s Deputies, claiming citizens had missed court dates and demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest. Scammers have now shifted tactics and are sending text messages instructing recipients to click a link and pay their “property tax bill.”
This is a scam.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will never call, text message, or message through social media to request or collect payment of any kind.
If you receive one of these text messages:
- Do not click any link
- Do not respond with personal or financial information • Delete the message immediately
We strongly encourage the public to share this information with family, friends, and co-workers to help prevent additional victims, especially those who may be more vulnerable to fraudulent schemes.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as needed.
For verification or questions, citizens may contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office directly at (502) 574-5471 or visit our official website www.jcsoky.org

How Louisville and Tokyo Built Legacies of Clean Water
|
When people think of great cities, they often think of their skylines or culture. But a city’s truest measure of progress lies in something far more fundamental: its water.
Though oceans apart, Louisville, Kentucky and Tokyo, Japan share remarkably similar origin stories – tales of innovation born from public health crises, civic pride, and the belief that access to clean water can shape a city’s future.

PNC Broadway In Louisville Presents
Kimberly Akimbo
Dec. 2-7, 2025
at The Kentucky Center | 501 West Main Street
The 2023 Tony-winner for Best Musical, based on David Lindsay-Abaire's play of the same title, revolves around a teenage girl named Kimberly Levaco, who suffers from a condition that rapidly accelerates the aging process. Before she has had a chance to venture forth into the world as an adult, she finds herself turning into an old woman. Her story, unfolding like a dark fairy tale, is as whimsical as it is piercing. Yet the effect is powerfully life-affirming in the way it reminds audiences of the preciousness of time we have at hand. Full of quirky humor and social satire on grownup immaturity, the musical features a score by Jeanine Tesori (music) and David Lindsay-Abaire (lyrics) that will leave you both grinning and deeply touched.
"Profoundly funny and deeply moving."—The New York Times
"A balance of youthful energy and serious stakes, Kimberly Akimbo leaves you floating high on good vibes and ready to make the most of life."—Entertainment Weekly
"It feels like a miracle. I loved it from the first note to the last."—The Washington Post
