A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the recent Voices & Visions community meeting focused on the future of California Park. It was a vibrant and thoughtful discussion, with valuable input from residents and community leaders—including Jason Canuel.

Community members shared inspiring ideas such as adding outdoor restrooms and a gazebo to enhance the park’s usability and charm.

Councilman Herndon encourages the youth of the neighborhood to get involved and share their own voices and visions for how California Park can better serve their generation. Your ideas matter—let’s shape the future together!

MELANnaire Marketplace: Holiday Market

performing arts

Grand Opening: Friday, October 24, 2025 • 11AM - Located next door to Women’s Dillard’s

Get ready for one of Louisville’s most inspiring shopping experiences — the MELANnaire Marketplace Holiday Market Gift Shop!

Now in its fourth year, this unique pop-up retail experience showcases the creativity and brilliance of Black entrepreneurs from Louisville Kentucky. Some of these entrepreneurs are located within your district and would be honored by your presence. Shoppers will discover exclusive, handcrafted, and culturally inspired products that celebrate innovation, heritage, and community.

As MELANnaire continues its mission to break barriers for marginalized communities, this annual market serves as a powerful retail platform for small business owners—95% of whom don’t yet have brick-and-mortar locations or large customer bases beyond family and friends. The Marketplace helps put their products in front of new audiences who may not have known these brands even existed.

We look forward to the possibility of celebrating with you!

Inspector General Ed Harness nominated for second term

ed hardness

Louisville's mayor has nominated the city's current inspector general, Ed Harness, for a second four-year term.

The Office of the Inspector General is an independent agency that investigates complaints against the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), and reviews both the practices and policies of the department. “We’ve made encouraging progress improving public safety and in our reform efforts, but there’s still so much work ahead of us," Mayor Craig Greenberg said. "We’re going to keep improving and reforming."

Harness has served in the role since 2021, establishing the role after the office was created in 2020. It has become a key office for the community since the Department of Justice dropped Louisville's consent decree.
