Dear neighbors,
What a great community engagement event we had on Sept. 14th at Klondike Park - thank you Metro Parks, Parks Alliance and Klondike Lane Elementary for making it happen!
I wanted to share the results of the online and in-person surveys so you know which direction we're headed as we order a new playground and allocate money for park improvements.
BIG TAKEAWAY: This community wants swings! All kinds of swings, with slides and things to climb - in the shade.
Other ideas presented from the survey:
- Sprayground
- Water fountain (one much closer to the park!)
- Ziplines (the elementary school kids specifically requested this!)
- Rock climbing
- Garden
- Rubber floor/Mulch
- Seesaw
- Pickelball (we could convert one of the two tennis courts into two new pickleball courts with paving and painting)
- Restrooms
- Cameras
- Fence around the playground
- Handicap swings
- Parking signs
- Soccer goals
- Pavilion
- Autism services
- Musical equipment
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill the survey out. It is much appreciated, and I look forward to working with you and members of local government to make Klondike Park the park we all know it can be.
If you have other resources we should know about, or have specific safety concerns, always let us know. Frustratingly, you can't reply to this newsletter but I'm at josie.raymond@louisvilleky.gov.
Louisville Nature Center & the Pawpaw Festival!
Last month, The Louisville Nature Center hosted their third annual Pawpaw Festival. This (free!!!!) festival is something I really enjoy going to with my family.
The event features guided hikes, workshops, local vendors, music, tastings, and a lot of family friendly fun.
Now, what is the Pawpaw Festival? The modern movement of the festival began in 1999 with the inaugural Ohio Pawpaw Festival in Albany, Ohio. Founded by Chris Chmiel, this pioneering event grew from a small gathering into a three-day festival attracting thousands of visitors annually.
Its success inspired several other celebrations across the pawpaw's native range, with Kentucky State University establishing its own festival in the early 2000s to showcase its pawpaw research and breeding efforts.
Like many things, COVID-19 caused the festival to take a pause in 2020. Now, in 2025, they are fully functioning and hosting festivals all throughout the country.
I highly encourage you to check out the festival next year. District 10 is always honored to host this wonderful event. To learn more about it, click here.
Boo at the Zoo is underway!!!!!! Tickets can be purchased at this link!
