District 4 Metro Councilman Ken Herndon Announces New Community Townhall!
Thursday, October 9th
6-7:30
Republic Bank YMCA
1720 West Broadway in the Conference Room
District 4 will be hosting LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey for an open discussion as the first official installment of the D4 Community Townhall.
From this point forward, these quarterly forums are open to all District 4 constituents and will replace the D4 Advisory Board Meetings, which were only open to designated neighborhood representatives, and will feature an open conversation with local government officials.
In two previous meetings, earlier this year, we have welcomed representatives from TARC and Codes and Regulations in what were robust, informative discussions.
Councilman Ken Herndon invites residents of the California neighborhood to a special Voices & Visions community meeting focused on the future of California Park.
The meeting will feature special guest Jason Canuel, Director of Parks & Recreation, who will help facilitate conversations on potential improvements for California Park.
Ideas may include a new sprayground, repurposing the tennis courts, or other enhancements suggested by the community.
Councilman Herndon is encouraging the youth of the community to attend to share their VOICES and VISIONS for how the park can better serve their needs.
Join Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins and Councilman Ken Herndon for the next Community Violence Prevention Meeting.

As cooler weather sets in, it's time for our annual Project Warm Blitz—a community-driven effort to weatherize homes for those in need.
Event Dates: Saturday, November 1st & 8th
Goal: assist 100 Jefferson County residents who are 60+ or living with disabilities.
Get Involved:
-
Clients: Now through October, we're accepting applications.
-
Volunteers: Teams of 3–6 are forming to help on one or both days. No experience needed—just a heart to serve!
How it works: For 4 weeks, beginning October 3, participants will receive a weekly email with a list of 10-12 anti-racism activities (read an article, watch a video, visit a Black-owned business, etc.)
Participants are encouraged to complete 3 of the activities over the course of the week.
It is purely personal; you don't report to anyone. By regularly participating in anti-racism activities, we naturally develop better habits of noticing and challenging racism in our daily lives.

 Saturday, September 27, 2025
9 AM to 3 PM
St. Stephen Baptist Church (1018 S. 15th Street)
The Summit is named after the late Kentucky State Senator, Darryl Owens. In 2015, the late Senator Owens wrote a manifesto letter to the mayor at that time, expressing the urgent need for economic development in West Louisville. He expressed the need for single unit, market-rate, high-end homes that are essential for community uplift and prosperity.
The purpose of this summit is to revisit the critical call made by the late Senator Owens. Councilman Herndon, we believe that your attendance is essential.
The Summit Presenters:
- Senator Nina Turner, Former Ohio State Senator
- Congressman Jonathan Jackson, U.S. Representative, Illinois – District 1
- Dr Edward Goetz, Author, New Deal Runs: Race, Economic Justice, & Public Housing Policy
- Dr Ricky L. Jones, Baldwin-King Scholar-in-Residence at U of L’s Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute
