For the latest on what's happening around District 10, follow Councilwoman Raymond on Facebook and Instagram.
If you get the enews late or don't get it, please check to see if your inbox is full.
Dear neighbors,
In the midst of life-affirming events like our park parties full of kids jumping on bounce houses with cotton candy-smeared faces, we are surrounded by too much death. From national, high profile assassinations to premature death here at home, we must do more to take care of one another.
This week, two valuable items came to my inbox.
First, the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness released its Suicide Fatality Report. It showed that nearly 80% of suicide deaths from 2020-2023 were men. 57% of all suicide deaths involved a gun.
Deaths among Hispanic/Latino individuals doubled from 2019 to 2022. Metro Council must play a role in addressing this crisis. In the immediate term, you and your loved ones can get free gun locks through the Louisville Metro Office of Violence Prevention; let me know if I can help by emailing josie.raymond@louisvilleky.gov.
Second, my colleague Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin in neighboring District 2, put together powerful PSAs from Louisville parents who have lost children to gun violence.
The videos urge families to know where their children are, to protect them and others. The anonymous LMPD tipline is (502) 574-LMPD. Watch and share the PSAs here:
If you have other resources we should know about, or have specific safety concerns, always let us know. Frustratingly, you can't reply to this newsletter but I'm at josie.raymond@louisvilleky.gov.
Prost, District 10!
Did you know The German American Club of Louisville is located in our district? If not, now you do!
Located at 1840 Lincoln Ave., this wonderful organization has been around uplifting and celebrating German culture in our city since 1878 (!!!!!). It is also 100% ran by volunteers.
Last weekend, I had the chance to visit the club and chat with members like Vice President Karin Naumowicz (pictured on the left!) to celebrate the kickoff of Oktoberfest.
What is Oktoberfest? It is a world-famous German folk festival celebrating beer, food, and Bavarian culture. The original event held is in Munich, Germany (anyone looking for last minute vacation plans?), from mid-September to the first Sunday in October.

If you're looking for a way to celebrate this occasion over the next couple of weeks, I highly recommend checking them out. And yes, you should absolutely wear a lederhosen or dirndl while there, that way you can really get into the spirit of it.
If you want to learn more about the organization, check out their website here.
