Share your feedback on preferred roadway safety designs
Louisville Metro Public Works' Department of Transportation is seeking feedback to make Louis Coleman Jr. Drive, Wilson Avenue, and S. 22nd Street in the Park DuValle and Park Hill neighborhoods safer for everyone who walks, bikes, drives, and uses transit.
The public is invited to complete a brief survey to share ideas for street improvements and safety upgrades. The survey will close on September 30.
This is part of the federally funded Rightsizing Louisville for Safe Streets project, which includes safety improvements for 10 corridors in Louisville. The project is funded by a $21 million Safe Streets and Roads for All implementation grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Rightsizing, also called a road diet or roadway reconfiguration, calms traffic and reduces speeding and weaving between lanes.

Recently our office learned about the traffic closures at the intersections of both South Brook/Kentucky Streets, and Hill Street/Burnett Avenue in Old Louisville, which both will be closed as crews work on the underside of I-65. The reports are that work on this project may last until 2027, with parts of I-65 closed entirely in the summer of 2026.
While we understand the necessity of this work, and indeed have learned from some in the community that some of these closures have been teased for years, the sudden announcement of the surface street closures took many people by surprise. Our office actually learned about these closures the same way everybody else did--from a news report. Hopefully going forward KYTC will be proactive and timely with their communications, not just to our office but to everybody in the community that is impacted.
District 6 will be heavily affected by both the I-65 repairs as well as upcoming projects like the two-way conversions of Logan, Shelby, 2nd, and 3rd Streets. While these projects will hopefully bring about improvements to our district when complete, there will be a lot of inconvenience and frustration in the meantime. All we can do is take this process one day at a time and communicate together our needs as this road work is completed. That same care and respect should be shown in return by state and local transportation officials. Please contact our office if you ever feel like these projects are not taking your concerns and perspectives into account, or if you have trouble with subcontractors working in our district.
