Dear Neighbor,
With family members and neighbors back in school and days getting shorter, Labor Day tends to mean the end of Summer in our house. While that is lamentable, it also means there are many things to look forward to, including the fall weather.
This weekend, WorldFest puts our international community in the spotlight downtown on the Belvedere. With food, performances, and opportunities to learn about the rich diversity of culture we enjoy here in Louisville, WorldFest is not to be missed.
Labor Day weekend is also the designated time we recognize the efforts and achievements of working Americans. Today's working families and their predecessors have done so much to improve workplace safety, wages, benefits and opportunities across all the industries in our nation. Work today would not be as rewarding or safe without their efforts. Thanks to them, we have this weekend off to enjoy time with our families and friends.
Enjoy the weekend,
Brent T. Ackerson 26th District Councilman

Manuel Álvarez Bravo PhotographsOpening August 28, 2025
Manuel Álvarez Bravo was the leading photographer working in Mexico during the twentieth century. His early works reveal the influence of Modernism, but he quickly developed a distinctive vision deeply rooted in his native Mexican culture and identity. Like Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, Álvarez Bravo flourished during the artistic and cultural renaissance that emerged following the Mexican Revolution of 1910 – 1921. Whether documenting the urban landscape of Mexico City or capturing imagery evoking indigenous traditions, his photographs capture a timelessness infused with overtones of mysticism, metaphor, and poetry. Travel back in time 65 million years — and still make it home for dinner — when Dinopalooza stomps into the Louisville Zoo on Saturday, May 17. Nineteen animatronic giants from the prehistoric era will bring ferocious fun to families through September 1, 2025.
Miniature dino experts at home will no doubt recognize—and eagerly school anyone around them on — the 65-foot-long Brachiosaurus, the 40-foot-long Tyrannosaurus rex, and the 30-foot-long Parasaurolophus. Good luck pronouncing that last one … not to mention Dsungaripterus or Quetzalcoatlus!
Budding paleontologists will have time to master all of the dinosaur names as they explore the interactive dig pit to uncover dino fossils. These Jurassic giants will be spread throughout the Zoo for maximum prehistoric impact.
Dinopalooza is included with Zoo admission and free for Zoo members.
🚧TRAFFIC ADVISORY:
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of the upcoming closure of S. Brook/Kentucky Streets and Hill Street/Burnett Avenue in downtown Louisville as part of the I-65 Central Corridor Project. The road closures are scheduled to begin on Wednesday Sept. 3 and will remain in place through the spring of 2027. Learn more at https://bit.ly/46jb1DZ.
The I-65 Central Corridor Project will rehabilitate interstate bridges and pavement in a heavily traveled corridor of I-65 between I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and the Muhammad Ali Boulevard interchange in downtown Louisville. This stretch of I-65 supports some of Kentucky’s largest employers and important destinations, including UPS, Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center, the University of Louisville and the LOUMED.
The I-65 Central Corridor Project will focus on improving safety and preventing unplanned closures while adding decades of life to these structures. At least six bridges in the project area will be replaced or rehabilitated during the next three years. Pre-construction started mid-2024. KYTC is working to determine available state and federal funding to support improvements to an additional 12 bridges.

Our office routinely publishes information on upcoming public meetings and regarding planning and zoning cases in and around District 26. Our posting in this forum is not an official notice. This list may not be comprehensive nor does it include other zoning matters decided upon by zoning authorities other than Louisville Metro Government.
While we intended to expand the scope of our zoning notices, our office reverted to the former policy of relaying the information we receive from Planning and Zoning. We are limited by ordinance and state law to provide the publicly available information.
