 Sheppard Park Celebrated their 100th birthday!
Kids face painting, live music, yard games, free food, free ice cream for 100 attendees and LOTS more were enjoyed on this joyous occasion.
Deputy Mayor James filled in for the Mayor to present a proclamation for the 100th anniversary of the park.

 Beecher Terrace Day
Councilman Herndon proudly sponsored Beecher Terrace Day and it was a full day of fun with youth basketball games, free food and ice cream for kids, jump house, Live DJ and performance from Sheryl Rouse.

 The community and City have identified an interest in improvements to publicly owned land along River Road. The Office of Planning wants to help the community identify potential future uses for Metro owned sites along this route - and we need your input! We want to know if community members have ideas for additional ways we can utilize public land that is in the floodplain. Our goal is to add to the number of people that enjoy these spaces and the ways that we use them.

No. This visioning exercise is only to identify ideas from the community for the future of Metro-owned land along River Road.

What does the City want to do with these properties?
We know this land is in the flood plain, and some of it is currently used for recreation. We want to know if you have ideas that add to those uses.

What about the parks that are already there?
We love parks and green spaces. Our goal is to add to the number of people that enjoy public places and the ways that we use them.

What about flooding?
These areas are all within the flood plain, which limits what can be built there.

 The Louisville Waste Management District will be accepting applications for our 2025 Grant Program starting August 1! The district is looking to support innovative, impactful projects that promote sustainable waste practices across Louisville/Jefferson County.

 LIHEAP Summer Cooling is for all eligible households for home cooling costs. Subsidy benefits can be applied as a credit on your utility account. The one-time benefit amount is determined by your housing category, fuel type, and income level.
Who is Eligible?
- Jefferson County Residents who are within 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Applicants must be responsible for home energy utility costs or pay energy costs if utilities are included as an undesignated portion of rent

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has been notified of a laboratory-confirmed case of West Nile virus in a Louisville resident. This is the first confirmed case of 2025. Due to privacy and confidentiality reasons, the department will not disclose any information about the individual.

The Alzheimer’s Association is excited to introduce My ALZ Journey, an innovative and accessible free tool designed for newly diagnosed, early-stage individuals and their care partners to help navigate their journey with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Developed for those who enjoy using apps in their daily life, My ALZ Journey provides personalized guidance, education, planning tools, interactive activities and local community resources.  Nonprofits across Louisville shared a desire to become better informed and equipped when it comes to partnering with Metro Government during last year's Louisville Nonprofit Coalition feedback sessions and survey.
To address these concerns, the Louisville Nonprofit Coalition is excited to offer a series of trainings in partnership with Louisville Metro Government.

 The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is recognizing National Breastfeeding Month and World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) by encouraging families to take advantage of the lactation education and support available to pregnant and breastfeeding parents through our WIC program.
WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.
Our trained breastfeeding peer counselors will be hosting free virtual breastfeeding classes at 3 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month. Our next seminar will be held on September 7. Our experts can help WIC moms navigate breastfeeding, give them support and face any breastfeeding challenges that may come up.
National Breastfeeding Month shines a spotlight on the benefits of human milk and supporting moms who choose to breastfeed. This year's theme, "Nourish, Sustain, Thrive," emphasizes the importance of breastfeeding for both the child's health and the well-being of the parent.
Benefits of breastfeeding
Breastfeeding provides numerous advantages for both mom and baby. It strengthens the baby's immune system and delivers ideal nutrition. Additionally, it offers health benefits for mom, such as a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
Studies have shown that babies who are breastfed:
- Are less likely to develop allergies
- Have fewer ear infections
- Have better dental health
- Reduced risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
- Are less likely to grow up overweight or develop diabetes later in life
Studies have shown breastfeeding benefits for the mother include:
- Weight loss support after birth
- Lower chances of postpartum depression and anxiety
- Fewer pre-menopausal cancers, like ovarian and breast cancer
- Lower risk of high blood pressure
- Lower risk of type 2 diabetes
- Less incidence of osteoporosis later in life

You can also learn more about the resources we offer such as free breast pumps, a support group and peer advisors - other moms who have breastfed or are breastfeeding their babies who can share encouragement and tips.
 A free training opportunity is available through the University of Louisville Digital Transformation Center - an 8-week online Digital Literacy “Train the Trainer” Program, funded by Louisville Metro Government.
This program is completely free for all Louisville residents aged 18 and older. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, participants will receive a $500 stipend.
