NEW YOUTH SUMMIT

Mayor Greenberg announces new youth summit through OVP and LYPC

LOUISVILLE, KY (July 30, 2025) – Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) are partnering with the Louisville Youth Philanthropy Council (LYPC) for the inaugural Roots of Change Youth Summit on Saturday, August 2, from 9:30 am-3:30 pm at the Muhammad Ali Center.

“As part of our comprehensive crime plan, Safe Louisville, we are committed to engaging with young people to find real solutions to issues affecting them in their neighborhoods,” said Mayor Greenberg. “This is a tremendous opportunity for young people to join us, have their voices heard, and help create lasting solutions that will make every neighborhood in Louisville safer, stronger and healthier.”

The event is the first youth-centered and youth-led summit in the office’s history. Not only are youth planning the event, but they will also facilitate panels and breakout sessions on topics like Community Safety & Advocacy, Career Development, and Leadership Skills. There will also be a networking luncheon so they can spend one-on-one time with civic leaders and nonprofits.

“Young people are experts in their own lives,” said Ashley Webb, assistant director with OVP. “They can identify on-the-ground program gaps and tell us how we can do a better job of helping them. That leads to real improvements in policies. This summit will allow a space for youth to come together and use their voice and experiences to give input and guide positive change in our city.”

Former Ball State basketball star Trey Moses will be the keynote speaker for the event. Moses broke several records in his college career before playing professionally in Europe. He also founded the nonprofit 24 Reasons to help support mental health after a close teammate died by suicide.

The event is free and open to youth 13 to 18. You can register here
