We'd like to introduce, Lucky! During the budget hearing for Louisville Metro Animal Services, the LMAS staff brought a few furry friends along, including this adorable Jack Russell terrier.
During the meeting, your District 3 Legislative Assistant, Ben, decided to adopt her! (LMAS was calling her Felicia, but Ben is going to name her Lucky.) Lucky is going home with Ben TODAY, and will be his first pet. Lucky may be attending some District Advisory Board meetings in the near future!
The LMAS budget hearing (on the same day as the zoo budget hearing) was the most fun, as members and staff were able to play with kittens and puppies, and see an owl!
Although the pets are cute, the budget is no laughing matter. It is critical the city passes a budget that reflects the needs of everyone in our community and that vital services are funded. Please continue to reach out with more suggestions on programs you want to see funded.
We recently heard that one of the exonerees the District 3 Office recognized last year, Johnetta Carr, reached a settlement regarding her wrongful conviction case. Councilwoman Parrish-Wright was honored to have met these Louisville exonerees, and proud to have passed a resolution honoring wrongful conviction day in Louisville. More on Ms. Carr's settlement can be found here: https://www.whas11.com/article/news/local/johnetta-carr-wrongfully-convicted-settlement-lmpd-louisville-kentucky/417-04308932-dcbe-4cce-8c5b-0f53cd31eaf1
Councilwoman Parrish-Wright wishes to express her thanks to the Future Ancestors team for another successful Race for Justice in 2025! It is so important for young people to remain engaged and the Councilwoman is grateful for all their hard work! (Councilwoman Parrish-Wright's team also came in second place in the race!)
Summer Anti-Racism Challenge from Listen, Learn, Act:
TAKE THE ANTI-RACISM CHALLENGE
The free, 4-week, Anti-Racism Challenge offers opportunities to educate ourselves and stand in support of the values we cherish: freedom and justice for all.
Here’s how it works: Each Friday morning in July, participants will receive an email that lists approximately 12 anti-racism activities. Some possible activities: contact an elected official to voice your thought on an issue, watch a film by a Black filmmaker or artists, read an article or listen to a podcast, attend an exhibit by a Black artist or a lecture by a Black leader, visit a Black-owned business, make a donation to a justice non-profit, journal on your own experiences to cultivate a deeper understanding and practice of anti-racism, etc. We ask each participant to complete at least 3 of the 12 listed activities.
