May 23, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

I hope you are looking forward to a long weekend with family, friends, and fun. There are many special events to mark Memorial Day in and around our City. Please check out some of those we highlighted below.

Kentucky Shakespeare is performing Macbeth tonight at 6:30pm in Farnsley Park. Please join your friends and neighbors for this great opportunity.

While we welcome this time to relax and enjoy time with those we love, I hope we can also take some time to remember and honor the American servicemen and women who died serving our country. So many of the freedoms we are used to every day simply aren't part of the lives of far too many around the world.

At any time there are over 150,000 American men and women in uniform deployed around the world. They are doing their part to keep us safe and free. Although unlikely; it is always possible some of them won't make it home to enjoy a long weekend with those they love.

So, I hope you will take a moment to consider the sacrifices of those who did give what Lincoln called the last full measure of devotion to the ideals we share as Americans, and pray for the safe return of those in uniform who are away from their families this weekend and throughout the year.

Enjoy the weekend,

BrentSignature

Thru Sept 1 | Dinopalooza @ ZOO

Travel back in time 65 million years — and still make it home for dinner — when Dinopalooza stomps into the Louisville Zoo on Saturday, May 17. Nineteen animatronic giants from the prehistoric era will bring ferocious fun to families through September 1, 2025.

Miniature dino experts at home will no doubt recognize—and eagerly school anyone around them on — the 65-foot-long Brachiosaurus, the 40-foot-long Tyrannosaurus rex, and the 30-foot-long Parasaurolophus. Good luck pronouncing that last one … not to mention Dsungaripterus or Quetzalcoatlus!

Budding paleontologists will have time to master all of the dinosaur names as they explore the interactive dig pit to uncover dino fossils. These Jurassic giants will be spread throughout the Zoo for maximum prehistoric impact.

Dinopalooza is included with Zoo admission and free for Zoo members.

Want Trees for your Neighborhood?

Louisville Grows Neighborhood Tree Champion Program, invites neighborhoods to actively steward their tree canopy. For this program, Louisville Grows will provide between 15 and 30 free trees to participating neighborhoods. In return, we ask each neighborhood to identify a local “Lorax”- someone to serve as a Neighborhood Tree Champion. This individual will take the lead on canvassing neighbors, collecting tree requests, and serving as the primary liaison for the program.

Louisville Grows will support the effort every step of the way. We’ll communicate directly with residents to confirm their tree orders and call 811 to locate underground utilities before planting occurs. We’ll help select the best location for each tree, handle the planting and mulching, and provide a watering apparatus to ensure the trees get a strong start. Tree Champions will also receive a comprehensive manual and all the necessary tools and resources to ensure success.

If you are interested in this program for your neighborhood let us know and we will het you in touch with the liaison.

New Drivers License Vision Screening Rule

Starting January 1, 2025, all Kentuckians must undergo a vision screening to renew their driver’s license. Multiple states have adopted mandatory vision screenings to ensure drivers have the visual acuity required to operate a vehicle safely.

This new requirement, enacted during the 2021 General Assembly, aims to promote highway safety by ensuring that all drivers maintain good vision throughout their driving career. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet  (KYTC) is responsible for administering the vision requirement law for drivers seeking to renew their license. Drivers have two options for vision screenings when renewing their license. Click on the link below for additional details. https://drive.ky.gov/Drivers/Documents/KCTC_fact%20sheet_public_.pdf

Public Notices

2938 and 2940 Yorkshire Boulevard

To: Adjoining Property Owners, Neighborhood Group Representatives expressing interest in this area and Metro Councilperson for xx District Re: Case 25-ZONEPA-0032 to rezone parts of 2940 and 2938 Yorkshire Boulevard

Triple M Investments, the property owner, is proposing to redevelop 2942 Yorkshire Boulevard and would like to include a portion of the adjacent property to allow an access drive to connect to Yorkshire Boulevard at the signalized intersection.

This will require this area to be rezoned from R-5 to C-2 and the current Neighborhood Form District to be changed to Regional Center Form District.

In accordance with the procedures of the Louisville Metro Office of Planning, we have been directed to invite you to discuss this proposal before an application is filed. This will be an informal meeting to give you the opportunity to review the proposed plan and discuss the proposal with the developer or his/her representative.

This meeting will be held in addition to the established public meeting procedures of the Office of Planning and/or the Board of Zoning Adjustment. The property is in the Neighborhood Form District and is currently zoned R-5.

The meeting to discuss this development proposal will be held on:

May 21st at 6:00 PM
At: McMahan Plaza - Suite 111
3099 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40220

(Across the parking lot from U.S. Bank)

At this meeting, a Sabak, Wilson and Lingo representative will explain the proposal and then discuss any concerns you have. We encourage you to attend this meeting and to share your thoughts.

Our office routinely publishes information on upcoming public meetings and regarding planning and zoning cases in and around District 26. Our posting in this forum is not an official notice. This list may not be comprehensive nor does it include other zoning matters decided upon by zoning authorities other than Louisville Metro Government.

While we intended to expand the scope of our zoning notices, our office reverted to the former policy of relaying the information we receive from Planning and Zoning. We are limited by ordinance and state law to provide the publicly available information.
