What a whirlwind the last month has been for folks who care about Joe Creason Park — and boy, are there a lot of you! Thank you for the hundreds of emails and phone calls and thank you to hundreds of you for showing up last week to say that Joe Creason Park is not the right place for a large tennis and pickleball center. This group of thoughtful, committed citizens raised important questions about this proposal and convinced Mayor Greenberg not to move forward with it. Congratulations.

I know neighbors are discussing what they'd like to see on "the slab" instead, whether it's a farmer's market, splash pad, a curling rink (yes, really!), or something else. I'll be a part of any discussions that the community leads.

I also want to ask for your input on something else in another one of District 10's parks. Since the pool will not be opening in Camp Taylor Memorial Park on Poplar Level Road this summer (I'm still heartbroken), my office will use the operational and security funding that would have gone to the pool to provide fun summer experiences for our families. We'll host five "Camp Taylor Community Nights" in the park. Save the dates: May 29, June 12, June 26, July 10, and July 24, all Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. Please complete this brief survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KYDJ3C8) to let me know what you want to see and do on these nights and we'll work to make it happen!

Councilwoman Raymond attended the Petersburg Estates Homeowners Association meeting at the Newburg Library on Tuesday evening.

Carletta Bell is the Association President and Chair of the meeting. Above right, neighborhood stalwart Anthony Perry was present. Councilwoman Raymond is looking forward to working with the Petersburg Estates Homeowners to address neighborhood issues.

A visit to Alley Cat Advocates, D-10 neighbors keeping the cat population down

Josie visited and got a tour of Alley Cat Advocates in District 10 from founder and Executive Director Karen Little, right, and Development Director Mary O'Connell.

Alley Cat Advocates has been offering free spay and neuter for more than 25 years in an effort to keep the cat population down and improve neighborhoods.

June 7 is Fan Fair for eligible residents

Fan Fair will be at The Edison Center, 701 W. Ormsby Avenue, on Saturday, June 7 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Anyone 60 years of age+ OR anyone with a verified disability can receive a free 20” box fan at the event while supplies last.

Along with the fan giveaway, there will be a vendor fair and a secure prescription drug toss.

PW crews will be popping up in their brightly colored safety vests to continue patching potholes.

1. Report online. An online map shows the current status of reports to Public Works.

2. Use X (Twitter) to send the location of the hole to @LouMetro311 and include the hashtag #502pothole.

3. Call Metro311 or 574-5000 to report potholes or any other issues.

Councilwoman Raymond invites the community to the 33rd Annual Turtle Derby May 17

Support the Little Sisters of the Poor on Saturday

Join Councilwoman Josie Raymond (D-10) and the community for a fun-filled afternoon at the 33rd Annual Turtle Derby on Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Little Sisters of the Poor St. Joseph’s Home, 15 Audubon Plaza Drive.

This beloved tradition features family-friendly games of chance, a giant turtle wheel, raffles, and the famous fried chicken dinners – with all proceeds benefiting the elderly residents at St. Joseph’s Home. Due to the shortage of live 4” Red-Eared Slider turtles this year, the races will be a little different. Instead of live turtle races, attendees can sponsor or wager on a number for a chance to win when the giant turtle wheel is spun.

Hosted by the Little Sisters of the Poor, the Turtle Derby raises essential funds to provide compassionate care for low-income elderly residents at St. Joseph’s Home. Special thanks to the community partners: Holy Family, for their help with setup and booth rental, and St. Stephen Martyr, for frying the always-popular chicken dinners.

“The Little Sisters provide essential care to our low-income elderly residents,” said Councilwoman Raymond. “Many have never known the nurturing support the Sisters provide. Every dollar raised goes directly back to St. Joseph’s Home. I encourage everyone to attend this wonderful event and support their mission.”

There are several ways to get involved before the main event on Saturday:

Fill the Cart: Donate non-perishable groceries for the cart located in the lobby of St. Joseph’s Home. The fully stocked cart will be auctioned off on the Wheel of Chance.
Contribute to Children’s Games: Drop off new toy prizes to be used as prizes at the children’s booths.
Stock Beverages: Donate individual soft drinks or bottled water for the Sisters to sell during the event.
Bake a Cake: Bring a homemade cake to be won at the Cake Wheel.

All contributions may be delivered to St. Joseph’s Home, 15 Audubon Plaza Drive, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Enter the cash raffle for a chance to win prizes of $250, $500, $1,000, and $5,000, or sponsor a turtle for $30.

As the heat of the summer day fades with the setting sun, a whole world comes alive in the cooler nights. From the loud, musical echoes of the Gray tree frogs to the hooting of owls, there is much to see and hear. Join our naturalist, Luke, for a night of observation in our sensory garden.

This program is ADA accessible. The terrain is paved and flat. Participants will go on a leisurely stroll around the garden, remaining mostly seated to take in the sights and sounds.

Night Hike June 11, 8 to 10 p.m. $15.

Owls, whippoorwills, bats OH MY! Join Luke on this guided hike to admire and identify sounds of the night.

The sun will set approximately 9:06 p.m.

Locate legal Short Term Rentals with Metro's interactive map

Short term rental enforcement continues in large part to be complaint-driven, based on public reporting of alleged violations to administrators. An interactive map tool contains all of the registered short term rentals in Louisville having an active permit to rent their property out to paying customers on STR websites like Airbnb.

If you believe someone is using a property as a short term rental but it does not show up on this registry, or if the registry indicates a non-owner occupied property does not have a CUP, then please report the issue here (select “Zoning and Business Concerns,” “Zoning Concern,” “Short Term Rental,” complete the form and submit).
