Councilwoman Scott participated in the First Annual "Ali Shuffle" 10k Walk/Run in West Louisville to kick off Mayor Greg Fischer's Give a Day Week of Service.
Spring Into Action in District 1
In the six months that I have served as your Councilperson, I have worked to build relationships that build community with folks from Cane Run Road to Park DuValle, from Riverside Gardens to Chickasaw, from Lake Dreamland to Parkland and all points in between.
Recently, I met with the principal of Farnsley Middle School to learn more about the Community School program and how we can help to build more connections with the school and the surrounding community. I also met with board members of the Farnsley-Kaufman House for a history lesson on this local landmark.
I was invited by local youth and community leaders to help launch a new initiative called “Connected Voices” which is a partnership effort to address issues like racial profiling in a way that focuses on accountability and healing. We met with Mayor Greg Fischer, Chief Steve Conrad and others to begin to open the doors of dialogue and break down barriers of division.
We have some of the best kept secrets in Southwest Louisville including the Harbor House, which I toured and had the opportunity to meet adults with disabilities who are contributing to our community in ways that many of us will never know.
A week after attending Roll Call at the 2nd Division of the Louisville Metro Police Department, I joined several officers, Lt. Gregory Burns and Major Bill Kristofeck in going door-to-door to educate residents about the FREE property engraving program of LMPD. You can protect your property by calling the 2nd Division at 574-2478 and taking part in the engraving program today.
“My Give A Day” week was full of activities including the Muhammad Ali Shuffle which started at the West End School, eight clean ups in District 1, environmental justice forums at Jefferson Community and Technical College and Spalding University, and I ended the week by participating in a Habitat for Humanity house build with several of my Metro Council colleagues. Yes, this is why I am honored to be your public servant.
In community,
Attica

"Community Comments"
District 1 "Community Comments" allows for individuals to speak up about any progress and or efforts they feel have improved or inspired residents of our District. This months edition features Timiko Edwards of Park Duvalle:
I attended the Friday session of the 5th annual Sistah Summit and my experience was wonderful! The speakers were empowering and they allowed the attendees to share their testimonies & life experiences as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the "skit" that was presented by several U of L students, that focused on women and the issues that we encounter on a daily basis. It was also an opportunity to meet new people and network with them, including the vendors. This conference exceeded my expectations and I felt honored to be invited. I would like to thank you Councilwoman Scott and District 1 office for sponsoring scholarships to the Summit, and allowing me to attend such an inspiring event.
