
Louisville – The Louisville Metro Council held their regularly scheduled Council meeting on Thursday, March 13th. Here are some of the highlights.
Old Business
Approved
- O-042-25: an ordinance relating to the appropriation of $2,915,000 of Opioid settlement funds for various purposes through the Department of Public Health and Wellness.
- O-023-25: an ordinance amending Section 11.4.7 of the Land Development Code regarding neighborhood meeting requirements for revised development plans.
- O-059-25: an ordinance relating to the zoning of property located at 8915 Old Bardstown Road. Sent back to the Planning Commission.
Special Recognitions and Proclamations
- Councilman Reno-Weber recognized the District 8 Page, Charlie Rubenstein.
- Councilmembers Piagentini and Lyninger recognized Eastern and duPont Manual High Schools for the KHSAA Cheer and Dance State Championship wins.
- Councilmember Reno-Weber recognized the 2024 State Championship Teams from Assumption High School in Cross Country, Field Hockey, Dance, Volleyball, and the Flag Football League Champions.

- R-028-25: resolution honoring Rev. Dr. Geoffrey S. Ellis by dedicating the northwest corner of 19th and Cedar Streets in his honor.
- R-025-25: resolution approving the granting of local incentives to Atomic Brands, Inc.
- R-026-25: resolution approving the noncompetitively negotiated professional service contract for the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods concerning positive facilitation of youth development, prevention, diversion, and treatment for the Louisville Youth Continuum of Care Project.

AT&T is set to conduct work in District 21.The Following Worksites and dates are listed below each map!
 Southside Neighborhood Map
AT&T is planning to place new fiber optic cable in the Southside neighborhood located within District 21.
Work dates will range from 3/17/2025 to 7/17/2025.
This project is all aerial placement so there will not be any restoration needed.
 Jefferson BLVD Map
AT&T is planning on doing work within District 21.
In these neighborhoods, cable will be pulled through an existing conduit run along Jefferson BLVD.
The work will take place sometime between March 18th through July 18th

You're Invited to attend Music for Americana
As some may know, Americana is facing closure and is counting on donations to help keep the great work they do in the community going.
This weekend, all are invited to The Real B.A. Colonial on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 7 PM for "Music for Americana," a benefit for Americana Community Center.
A $10 donation is requested at the door, and 100% of the funds raised will go directly to Americana.

 Earth Fest 2025
The Office of Sustainability will host Earth Fest, a community festival with food, music, performances, arts and environmental activities, community resources, and more on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This event will kick off all the Earth Month events happening in the Louisville area.
We are also creating an Earth Month Community Calendar to promote Earth Month events happening in the Louisville area in 2025. Please use the form below to share your Earth Day and environmental events planned during Spring 2025 and participate in Earth Fest!

Welcome to Louisville Metro Community Services - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) Appointment Scheduler
Please note that we do offer free tax preparation software on our website, labcservices.org. Please check our website and our Facebook pages for the most up to date information about the availability of our services.
Households with incomes below $67,000 are eligible for participation in this program. We are required to see social security cards for everyone included on a tax return. Please note that the IRS does not allow our program to prepare returns that include farm income, income from rental properties or businesses or self-employment income that includes depreciation or that includes expenses for other employees of the business.
There are two ways that you can take advantage of the free tax services:

Self-File: Click here to access free versions of Turbo Tax or My Free Taxes (H&R Block's product) and click on the Free Online Tax Filing tab which is located near the top of the page. Prepare and e-file your own return. Assistance, if needed, is provided through an 800 number.

Traditional VITA Service: You schedule an appointment using this site and work with a certified volunteer that will assist you in preparing your return, review it with you and efile it for you when finished.
List of Documents to bring for your appointment
- Your 2024 household income must be below $67,000. What to bring to the tax site.
- A copy of last year's return.
- Social security cards and birth dates for you, your spouse, and all dependents you are claiming.
- Picture ID for you and your spouse if filing jointly. Please note that this is an IRS requirement to help avoid identity theft.
- Any letter or notice you received from the IRS.
- A deposit slip with your savings and or checking routing and account number, or the routing and account number for your re-fillable debit card for direct deposit of your refund.
- Any health insurance information you have received regarding your health insurance coverage for 2024 including all 1095 A, B or C.
- Sources of income:
- W-2 forms for all jobs held in 2024.
- 1099 forms such as unemployment Social Security and self-employment.
- Record of cash payments received in 2024 for work not reported on W-2 or 1099 form.
- Pension document including records of withdrawal from 401k or other pension plans.
- Documentation or cancellation of debt.
- Records of your contributions to traditional and Roth IRA and health savings accounts.
- Records showing any estimated tax payments made.
For possible deductions and credits:
- If you pay for childcare bring documentation listing provider name address tax ID number and the amount you paid in 2024.
- If you, your spouse, or your child attend college, bring your tuition expense statement. It's a 1098-T
- Documentation of the amount spent on books, supplies, and equipment, and college account statement.
- Student loan interest statement, a 1098-E.
- Documentation of alimony and child support.
If you're itemizing bring documents of out-of-pocket expenses for:
- Medical bills paid by you and not reimbursed by your insurance.
- Charitable contributions.
- Mortgage interest and points.
- Real estate taxes paid.
- Property taxes paid.
Please bring any other information you think we may need to prepare to return to successfully.

LIHEAP:
Enrollment for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Winter Crisis is available through Kentucky's Community Action Network for eligible households until March 31, 2025, or until funds run out. Benefits vary based on housing category, fuel type, and income level and can be used for home heating costs, including electric, natural gas, propane, coal, wood, or fuel oil.

Flight Tracking:
If you have complaints about airport noise, please call Noise Office at 502-363-8516 and follow the below prompts to track flights:
Go to the airport's website www.flylouisville.com. At the top of the page, click on CORPORATE tab. Under the heading LRAA, click on the tab for NOISE COMPATIBILITY PROGRAM. Near the bottom of the page, look for Flight Tracking and click the button for NEAR-LIVE FLIGHT TRACKS DISPLAY. Click the Flight Tracking heading at the top of the page. Click the Accept button to accept the terms and conditions and you can begin viewing flights.
Pothole Reporting:
Use the Louisville Metro online form by clicking here. Use Twitter by sending the location of the hole to @LouMetro311 and include the hashtag #502pothole. Call Metro311 or 574-5000 to report potholes or any other issues. Call our office at 574-1121, and we'll turn it in on your behalf.
To report a pothole on an interstate in Jefferson County, go to the “contact us” dropdown menu and select “report a hazard” on KYTC’s website http://transportation.ky.gov
Recycling:
We are asking for your help to ensure that we are correctly setting out our recycling carts in our district. Follow these tips to ensure that your recycling gets picked up time!
Do: Make sure the lid is closed flat and break the boxes down flat to maximize space.
Don't: Set boxes beside the cart or leave lid open or overflow the cart
