The Louisville Zoo is springing into its summer season with Super Spring Kick-off featuring popular superheroes to launch its “Meet Me at the Zoo” event series on March 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kids (and kids at heart) will be able to meet some of their favorite heroes from comic books, movies, and more. Character meet and greets are FREE with Zoo admission or Louisville Zoo membership.
While at the Zoo, guests can also learn about some of their favorite animals and the amazing adaptations they harness as their own wild “superpowers.”

Zoo Hours
The Zoo is open daily year-round. Now through March 14, 2025, hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with guests exiting by 5 p.m. Beginning March 15, 2025, Zoo hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (enjoy until 6 p.m.). Pop-Up Drop-Off events are extremely popular, and our staff strives to make the drive-through experience as efficient as possible. Here are seven tips for attending a Pop-Up Drop-Off:

Do not arrive early! All Pop-Up Drop-Off events start at 10 a.m. A line of vehicles causes traffic backups and prevents our equipment from entering.

Only bring sensitive documents to be shredded! The line for shredding is usually the longest. We have seen catalogs, paperback books, etc. being shredded, which is unnecessary and takes up valuable time.

Make sure no items are mixed with your documents! We've seen hammers, scissors, and toys mixed in with documents. These contaminants can break the shredding truck's equipment!

Try giving away usable items first! We see a LOT of decent items being trashed or recycled at our events. Some residents even offer these items to workers - staff is not allowed to keep items. Please try to donate or give away BEFORE coming to our waste and recycling event.

Loads of construction materials, lumber, and loose debris are NOT allowed! Take these loads to the Waste Reduction Center at 636 Meriwether Ave instead. Pop-Up Drop-Off events are very popular - please follow the rules so we can keep the line moving.

Separate your loads into the various categories! More can be recycled, and the line moves faster when you are ready to offload your items at each station.
Check-in staff will ask for your zip code and which types of items you brought. We track this information so we can keep improving our events. Most residents bring large items, electronics, and documents for shredding. Other categories include metal (or mostly metal) items, tires, yard waste, household recyclables, prescription medication, and shoes.
The Environmental Protection Agency sponsors Fix a Leak Week (March 17 through 23) to encourage households to find and fix leaks in home plumbing. Louisville Water representatives will spread this message throughout our community. Look for them at hardware and home improvement stores. (You'll be able to find a schedule of times and locations on our website during Fix a Leak Week.)
You also may want to check out our Ginny on the Job video about finding leaks, and you can use the Pure Connect℠ portal to monitor your water usage. Knowing how many gallons you (and your family) use on an average day can be very helpful when you see an unexpected increase from one billing cycle to the next. For Louisville Water customers, the average excess charges on a bill from leaks is $500, and you certainly don’t want to pay for water you don’t use.

Thursday, March 6, Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the kickoff of Pothole Blitz 2025. The Louisville Metro Department of Public Works launches the Pothole Blitz every spring to patch potholes along city roads that have been damaged by winter weather. Last year, PW filled 46,000 potholes. Due to extreme weather, snowfall, and low temperatures in January and February, crews are expected to fill more potholes this spring.
Louisville has an average of 35 Public Works Roads & Operations crew members working everyday filling potholes along hundreds of miles of streets and roadways across the city.
PW crews will be popping up in their brightly colored safety vests to continue patching potholes. PW also patches potholes year-round in response to service requests made by:
- Filling out the online form on Louisvilleky.gov.
- Using Twitter (X) by sending the location of the hole to @LouMetro311 and including the hashtag #502pothole
Calling Metro311 or 574-5000 to report potholes or any other issues.
