District 1 Updates!

Campground Road Spill

As many of you are aware, District 1 suffered a spill that occurred at 6200 Camp Ground Rd. near the Riverside Gardens neighborhood.

Our office was notified via the LENSAlert that was sent out to all those in the affected area that signed up to receive them.

Councilwoman Hawkins and the District 1 office was in communication with Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Chief Jason Meiman, who was boots on the ground assisting the situation and ensuring it was under control.

It was communicated that it was believed that the chemical spill came from the Bakelite Synthetics chemical plant that is located at 6200 Camp Ground Rd #6210, Louisville, KY 40216, near the Riverside Gardens neighborhood and was under investigation.

Chief Meiman communicated to our office that the Chemical was acrostic and soluble  in water and there were minor traces of resin found. The chemical trace numbers were well below the minimum requirement of hazard in chemical exposure levels to humans with minor irritants.

Though a minor odor was present, it was stated that there was no threat to the public, air quality, or drinking water, though advised that residents and pets within 1/2 mile of the location were asked to avoid direct contact with the natural streams and bodies of water until further notice. This was confirmed with Air Pollution Control District  (APCD) and Metro Safe and additionally, a third-party environmental clean up was brought on site as well as State Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

On Thursday, our office received an update from Chief Meiman, PRP Fire, that the EPA has cleared the ditch line and all material had been mitigated and gave PRP Fire the all clear.

To receive these extremely helpful and necessary updates, our office highly encourages you to sign up for LENSAlert, which you can do so by texting "LENSAlert" to 67283 and you can visit this link for more information:

Consent Decree Updates from Mayor Craig Greenberg

To all those who have contacted our office in reference to the Consent Decree. It was communicated to our office by Mayor Craig Greenberg that the third-party monitor will be chosen by his office, not by the community though many Louisville residents as well as myself and the District 1 office has advocated for the monitor to be community chosen.

If you have any questions or concerns in reference to this, you can contact Mayor Greenberg's office at (502) 574-2003.
