New Council Leadership, Snow Removal, and Legislative Priorities
January 17th, 2024
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I apologize for waiting to send this newsletter but I wanted to have some news on Council leadership and committees to share. As you know, every year when Council reconvenes, we elect new Caucus leadership and new Council leadership. I am humbled to announce that the Republican Caucus has once again voted unanimously to elect me as their Caucus Chair for this calendar year. I am joined by my colleague Councilman Khalil Batshon as Vice-Shair who represents District 25 in south-west Louisville. This is the 4th time in 7 years that my Caucus has trusted me in this leadership role.
After Caucus, we convened as a full Council to elect the new President of Metro Council. The vote began with a split between Councilman Winkler and Councilman Kramer with neither receiving the 14 votes necessary to get elected. Ultimately, the Republican Caucus along with 3 Democrats voted to elect Councilman Brent Ackerson who represents District 26 in the St. Matthews area as our Council President. He received our vote after committing to fairness in how Council is organized related to committee leadership.
