The Louisville Metro Council has teamed up with the Association of Community Ministries to host a Holiday Food Drive collecting essential foods for those most in need this season. All donations will be provided to the Association of Community Ministries to be divided evenly amongst the 13 Area Community Ministries.

WHEN: November 11 - December 5

WHERE: You may drop off your food donations at: PRP Fire Station, 9500 Stonestreet Road, 40272 or click here for other locations throughout the city

WHAT IS NEEDED:

Canned Protein (beef stew, canned chicken, canned tuna, hearty soups)
Tomato Sauce
Diced Tomatoes
Canned Potatoes
Boxed Potatoes

Louisville Ballet and the Louisville Free Public Library are excited to announce the return of Nutcracker Family Storytimes, through December 5, at select LFPL locations. The annual event has become a holiday tradition for families across Louisville.

These free, family-friendly events feature two Louisville Ballet dancers, in costume, reading the classic story of The Nutcracker, along with music, dancing, crafts, and more! Plus, one lucky family at each event walks away with four tickets to see Louisville Ballet’s production of The Brown-Forman Nutcracker.

Metro Council Committees Summary

Last week Metro Council committees met and adopted several resolutions, ordinances, and held a discussion on Metro hiring with the Human Resources Department.

The Planning and Zoning Committee approved two changes in zoning along Third Street Road, Cedar Creek Road, and upheld a Planning Commission denial on Old Bardstown Road. Additionally, the committee adopted Land Development Code (LDC) changes related to Factory Built Housing, established a temporary moratorium on transitional housing in R-5A and R-5B zoning districts, requested the Planning Commission recommend LDC changes for transitional housing, and approved a displacement assessment form and results matrix. Finally, the committee adopted two ordinances making the owner and tenant jointly responsible for the property’s cleanliness and to allow the retrieval of personal keepsakes for residents affected by an emergency demolition.

The Labor, Economic Development, and Appropriations Committee approved several council district appropriations, infrastructure ordinances as well as resolutions approving a contract with Commonwealth Economics Partners and accepting a million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The Public Works Committee adopted an ordinance making the owner and vehicle operator jointly responsible for any solid waste hauled.

The Government Accountability, Audit, and Appointments Committee approved appointees to the Urban Renewal Commission, Human Relations Advocacy, KentuckianaWorks—Greater Louisville Workforce Development, Louisville Downtown Management District, Redevelopment Authority, and Riverport Authority.

The Equity and Community Affairs Committee adopted resolutions for contracts with the Louisville Recovery Community Connection, UofL’s Research Foundation for wastewater monitoring, and accepted over a million dollars from Delta Dental for down payment assistance.

The Parks and Sustainability Committee approved resolutions for a Louisville Zoo Animatronic Dinosaur contract and accepted a donation from the estate of Carol Cornwell Price.

The Budget Committee approved two ordinances approving transfers of council district and American Rescue Funding. The committee also heard testimony from the Mayor’s Office and Metro’s Human Resources Department on staffing and recruitment efforts.

Metro Council meets again on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 6:00pm.

Exciting New Additions to Dixie Highway

We are thrilled to welcome three fantastic new businesses to our Dixie Highway community. Bank of America (at the former Rite Aid location) is bringing their trusted financial services to help meet your banking needs. Panda Express (at the former WW Cousins site) will be serving up its signature fresh and flavorful Chinese-American cuisine. And the WaWa gas station and convenience store (located at the old Logan's address) will keep you fueled with top-notch service, snacks, and coffee. These new additions will make Dixie an even better area.

The public feedback period for the proposed January 26, 2025 service changes closes this Friday, November 22. You can give feedback on the proposed service changes via:

Paving Week

Below is the list of Louisville Metro Public Works paving projects in District 12 scheduled for the week of November 18.

Please note that the schedule may have some delays due to weather or other unforeseen issues. Various lane closures and other impacts will be on-going during these improvements.

METRO GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PROGRAM TO INCREASE RENTALS FOR HOUSELESS PEOPLE

Local property owners who partner with the Louisville Metro Housing and Support Division are now eligible for a financial incentive.

The Landlord Incentive Program offers up to $2,000 to landlords who agree to rent their properties for 12 months to clients of the Housing and Support Division, which aims to connect houseless people in Louisville to housing.

By participating in this program, property owners can help provide stable housing for families in need while also receiving financial support and on-site supportive services.

Participants will receive $1,000 once they’ve met with Housing and Support staff and agreed to rent their property to a client, and they will receive another $1,000 upon completion of a 12-month lease.

This incentive program is in addition to federal subsidies that provide on-going rental assistance during the period of the lease. Supportive services, including on-site visits, are also provided as part of the program.

By partnering with the Housing and Support Division, local landlords will contribute to a solution that ensures more families have access to safe and affordable housing.
