Track Crime in the City

In this issue:

Councilman Kramer to host "Dining in the District" on Oct. 16

Fiesta TIme!

"Dining in the District” is an informal meeting with residents at either a locally owned or operated restaurant in Louisville Metro District 11.  It is an opportunity for me to listen to your neighborhood concerns, thoughts on proposed legislation, and answer any questions you may have about local government.  “Dining in the District” is my continued commitment to being accessible to you.

The next “Dining in the District” is over lunch on Wednesday, October 16 at noon at Fiesta Time Amigos Mexican Grill, 135 S. English Station Rd.  Lunch will last approximately one hour, and participants are responsible for covering the costs of their own meals.  Seating is limited to eight constituents. To make your reservation, please contact Scott Harrington, my legislative assistant, at 574-1111 or Scott.Harrington@louisvilleky.gov.

Want to suggest a dining location? If so, please contact Scott with your savory suggestion!

The following is a statement from the nine members of the Louisville Metro Council’s Minority Caucus regarding enforcement of mask laws in Louisville

“For nearly a year, members of the Minority Caucus have advocated for a return to policies that prohibit the use of masks by adults in public spaces, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the health of the people of our city.  Metro Council Republicans support giving police all of the resources necessary to enforce our laws and to promote safer streets. We believe masks are being deliberately used to hide identities of those involved in criminal acts at a much greater rate. This practice has led to more crime and violence in our city.

The Minority Caucus wants to make it clear that we support Mayor Greenberg’s proposal. This policy shift is needed as we have received many reports of incidents in which masks (most of which are non-N95 grade) are used to conceal the identity of the suspect. The adoption of masks, under the guise of being COVID vigilant, has reduced the effectiveness of security cameras and has made the task of identifying suspects even more difficult.

The Minority Caucus will actively advocate for the enforcement of this ordinance. We pledge to work with Mayor Greenberg to make any amendments necessary to help create a safer community.”

Fern Creek Community Association and Fire Dept. to host Trunk or Treat on Oct. 17

Trunk or Treat

Pop-Up Drop-Off Event

Our next Pop-Up Drop-Off event will be Saturday, October 19, 10:00 - 2:00 at UofL's Shelby Campus.

Check out these tips for attending the Pop-Up Drop-Off events:

Tip #1: Do not arrive early! All Pop-Up Drop-Off events start at 10 a.m. A line of vehicles causes traffic backups and prevents our equipment from entering.

Tip #2: Only bring sensitive documents to be shredded! The line for shredding is usually the longest. We have seen catalogs, paperback books, etc. being shredded, which is unnecessary and takes up valuable time.

Tip #3: Make sure no items are mixed with your documents! We've seen hammers, scissors, and toys mixed in with documents. These contaminants can break the shredding truck's equipment!

Tip #4: Try giving away usable items first! We see a LOT of decent items being trashed or recycled at our events. Some residents even offer these items to workers - staff is not allowed to keep items. Please try to donate or give away BEFORE coming to our waste and recycling event.

Tip #5: Loads of construction materials, lumber, and loose debris are NOT allowed! Take these loads to the Waste Reduction Center at 636 Meriwether Ave instead. Pop-Up Drop-Off events are very popular - please follow the rules so we can keep the line moving.

Tip #6: Separate your loads into the various categories! More can be recycled and the line moves faster when you are ready to offload your items at each station.

Tip #7: Check-in staff will ask for your zip code and which types of items you brought. We track this information so we can keep improving our events. Most residents bring large items, electronics, and documents for shredding. Other categories include metal (or mostly metal) items, tires, yard waste, household recyclables, prescription medication, and shoes.

If you have any questions about these events, contact the kNOw Waste Education Department!
