SEVERE WEATHER FAQs
Downed Tree?
Please call Metro311 (311 or 574-5000) from the hours of 7am – 7pm, Monday through Friday. After hours, please call 911 so that the dispatcher can alert the proper crew with public works. Please keep in mind that the safety of our crews is paramount so the tree potentially may not be removed until the storm is over. Downed powerlines in trees will extend the amount of time that it takes to remove the tree from the public roadway as LG&E must ensure the powerline is no longer active before the tree can be removed.
If the tree falls on private property who is responsible?
The removal of tree debris, such as branches, logs, and large limbs, is the responsibility of the private property owner. (Typically, any damage caused by a tree that falls on your property — regardless of where the tree came from — is your responsibility)
Downed Power Lines?
Stay away from downed wires. Keep others away, too. Always assume any downed wire is an energized power line and call LG&E immediately. Be cautious when clearing fallen tree limbs and debris from your yard after a storm. Avoid making contact with branches or debris that may be in contact with downed power lines as well as the possibility that standing water nearby may also pose an risk for electrocution. Remember to be specific about the location (closest adjacent address or intersection) so it can be addressed expeditiously.
Power Outage?
Report your outage by phone 24 hours a day/7 days a week & LG&E: 502-589-1444 or 800-331-7370. LG&E Maintains an active website at https://stormcenter.lge-ku.com/
Where you can check the status of outages as well as the estimated time for repair.
Fire Safety?
The Louisville Fire Department reminds residents to take safety precautions when power is being restored to their homes and businesses. Make sure electrical stove, stove top elements, ovens, and small appliances are turned off and unplugged to prevent fires when electric is restored. Residents without power, should use flashlights instead of candles. Remember to keep generators 20 feet away from the home with the exhaust fumes pointing away from the home.
Emergency Alerts
Because any weather pattern can change, the city is urging all residents to sign up for LENSAlert and Smart911 to receive weather updates, travel advisories and safety information. Additionally, residents can plan for emergencies by filling out their safety profile on Smart911 to give 9-1-1 the information they need to help in an emergency. Text “LENSALERT” to 67283 to sign up for alerts.
Will you have storm debris drop off sites?
Announcements of storm debris drop off sites will be published in our enews if and when they are approved by the mayor/public works.
