Council Updates

This week, the full Louisville Metro Council met, and considered several pieces of legislation, including the appointment of candidates to Louisville boards and commissions, changes in zoning to properties, and the allocation of public funds for various public purposes. Speaking of legislation: we WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU about your priorities for your neighborhood. While a large majority of Council's responsibility is to manage money, Council also writes local ordinances or rules. What are some problems that seem to go un-addressed? We've been hearing about abandoned properties and speeding. While we might not be able to solve these problems overnight, we are happy to do some research to see what rules we have the flexibility to update. We will share you thoughts with the county attorney and pass rules that work for your life, and your community, and our whole city. Please use THIS LINK to complete the short online survey. (If you have neighbors who don't have the ability to complete the survey online, please let us know and we can deliver paper copies.) We plan to start compiling survey results at the end of August. 

As always, If you see problems in your neighborhood, like speeding, abandoned properties, or overgrown grass, please report them to our office or to 3-1-1. Our office is awaiting updates from the County Attorney's Office to determine the best course of action for care for Schardein Cemetery. 

District 3 in The Community!

The D3 team attended the groundbreaking for the Richardson Apartments, hosted by the Urban League. This will be an affordable housing complex in West Louisville.

District 3 Community Engagement Strategist, Dre. is speaking with seniors at the ElderServe Town Hall regarding their concerns.

The D3 team attended The Healing Place mingle event at the Frazier History Museum.

The D3 team was present at the Urban Forestry Workshop to learn more about Louisville's tree plan and how we can best serve our communities and trees.

3DAB Meeting 8/12 at 6pm at South Louisville Community Center

Legislative & Neighborhood Priorities

D3's neighborhood walks began this week! Ben and Dre took a tour of some streets in the Hallmark neighborhood on July 22nd and July 23rd (see some pics below!). We also spoke to residents of the Jacobs Neighborhood on July 23rd, and Ben took a walk on July 24th. We also stopped by Taylor Berry on the evening of July 24th. We took a basic inventory of sidewalk conditions, speed humps, and general upkeep. If you have a date in mind for us to visit your neighborhood, please let us know and we'll be happy to come out! If you have not already, please consider taking our survey!

From our surveys so far, some of the top concerns we are seeing include: speeding, neighborhood upkeep, and access to a grocery store.
