July 2024 Updates

3dab meeting

We hope everyone has been staying safe in the hot weather and enjoying their summer. (Because of the holiday, we did not send a newsletter on July 5th, but the newsletter is BACK!) After passing the annual budget on June 20th, Metro Council has been on a "break". There have been no meetings, but we have still been working in the community, as you'll see below. Council meetings resume next week with committees, and the week after that with a full council meeting on July 25th.

During this time, the District 3 team has also started a Legislative Priorities initiative. We know our office will always help with public service tasks, like sidewalks and speed humps, but we WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU about legislation. While a large majority of Council's responsibility is to manage money, Council also writes local ordinances or rules. That said, how can we either improve existing ordinances or draft new ones to improve your life? We want to take your ideas to the county attorney and pass rules that work for your life, and your community, and our whole city. Please use THIS LINK to complete the short online survey. (If you have neighbors who don't have the ability to complete the survey online, please let us know and we can deliver paper copies.) We plan to start compiling survey results at the end of August.

As always, If you see problems in your neighborhood, like speeding, abandoned properties, or overgrown grass, please report them to our office or to 3-1-1. Our office is in contact with the County Attorney's Office to determine the best course of action for care for Schardein Cemetery.

Councilwoman Parrish-Wright joined the Louisville Democratic Party and other elected Democrats to do a reading of the Declaration of Independence for July 4th.

The D3 team joined Council Districts 1,2, 4, and 7 for the press conference addressing the early closure of the Kroger on 28th and Broadway. In District 3 and indeed in West Louisville, South Louisville and Southwest Louisville, there is a lack of grocery stores, farmer's markets, and access to fresh food. We are working with several community partners to fix that as best we can.

Neighborhood Walks!

D3 wants to walk in your neighborhood! Our team has heard concerns from several neighborhoods and we want to take a walk with you! In conjunction with our survey, we'd like to do neighborhood walks and are tentatively thinking about 6-8pm during the weekdays (except for the Thursday council day). Please let us know which works for you!
