Hello Neighbors & Friends,
I hope you're planning an enjoyable and festive 4th of July weekend. As for me and my family, we are reuniting from all areas of the U.S. for a gathering which promises to be memorable --- and tiring. I'm here for all of it!
Metro Council is still on a summer break. We should be fully rested and raring to go upon our return on July 15. That said, though, while councilmembers are "breaking," our staff members are in the office to handle your calls. Please do not hesitate to reach out to make your inquiries, recommendations, complaints....and, by all means, compliments. It is always a pleasure hearing from you.
Okay, I'm off to whip up some punch and set up some tables and chairs. I'll talk with you next week! Please be safe and responsible, and enjoy family and friends as much as you can.
"Parting is such sweet sorry"...Au revoir, adios, arrivederci, auf widersehen, addio, adeus, adieu, adjo, annyeong, biday, dag, farvel, jaa ne, sayonara, aloha, ciao, namaste, shalom, goodbye... for now.
The next Metro Council meeting is Thursday, July 25th, at 6:00 p.m.
For additional information or questions, you can reach the Metro Council Clerk’s Office at (502) 574-3902.
TARC is facing a financial crisis as the agency will soon lose 20 percent of its operating budget as America Rescue Plan funding comes to an end. Due to this challenge, a tough decision was made to reduce the frequency of routes effective June 30, 2024.
The service reductions will reduce weekday service on affected lines to levels typically seen on Saturday. The service reductions will only impact fixed route service – at this time TARC3 service will remain the same.
ARC's four frequent routes - #4 Fourth Street, #10 Dixie Rapid, #23 Broadway, and #28 Preston Highway - will remain at their current levels of service.
Please also note that Route #29 Eastern Parkway will re-route to the north side of Cherokee Park. See the schedule linked below for more information. A list of service reductions follows below. For more information, please visit the TARC website.

Since Muffins with McCraney is coming up, see if you can spot which of these muffin fun facts isn't as baked in with the others:
- The term "muffin" is believed to have originated from the German word "muffen," meaning small cakes.
- The nursey rhyme "Muffin Man" is about a real person who sold muffins door-to-door in London.
- The first known muffin recipe dates back to the 10th century.
- English muffins are traditionally cooked on a griddle, not baked in an oven.
- Councilwoman McCraney serves delicious muffins at her meetings with you.

On January 1, 2019, a new Comprehensive Plan, called Plan 2040, went into effect. As a resident of District 7 (or any district in Louisville), it is important to review the Comprehensive Plan if you are interested in development that is proposed for the neighborhood. The Comprehensive Plan is the guidepost for all development, and the Planning Commission must use it as one of the guiding principles and tools for making decisions regarding the approval or denial of a neighborhood development project.
Read The Comprehensive Plan (Plan 2040)
The Comprehensive Plan is representative of over 6,000 voices, including Metro staff, an advisory committee, and resident volunteers. The Advisory Committee, made up of diverse representatives from neighborhood and community organizations as well as development and business interests, finalized its recommended goals, objectives, and policies on February 21, 2018.
On April 16, 2018, the Planning Commission recommended the Comprehensive Plan for approval. The document was then reviewed by the Metro Council as well as 12 local municipalities with zoning authority for formal adoption. Those 12 local municipalities are: Anchorage, Douglass Hills, Graymoor-Devondale, Hurstbourne, Indian Hills, Jeffersontown, Lyndon, Middletown, Prospect, Shively, St. Matthews, and St. Regis Park.

The one about 10th century muffins is wrong, but they have been around since the early 1700s!
