June 21, 2024

Dear Neighbor,

Yesterday, my colleagues and I approved next year's budget for the Louisville Metro Government. The fiscal year for our merged government runs from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

With a community of this size and diversity, it probably comes as no surprise that the final agreement was a compromise. Nobody got everything they wanted in or out of the budget, myself included.

There are many points of good news in the budget we adopted for 2024-2025. Compared to the Mayor's proposed budget, we secured $1MM to replace the bridge on Hikes Lane over the South Fork of Beargrass Creek.

While the majority of the work on Hikes Lane went as planned, engineers deemed that bridge incapable of withstanding the construction and weight of repaving when examined. However, the project budget did not include the replacement of the bridge.

So, we worked with the Mayor and public works to ensure it was included as a line item, so we could complete the Hikes Lane Rehabilitation Project. I hope they will be able to get to work on that soon.

The final budget also included more than $8MM additional dollars for street paving, more money for sidewalk and bridge repair, and deferred maintenance in Metro Parks,  across Louisville Metro.

These infrastructure investments will help cut down on the backlog of deferred maintenance, and underperforming public assets in our city.

The Metro Council also restored funding for the Cooperative Extension program and Soil and Water Conservation District.

I'm thankful for your input and ideas as we moved through the process and for my colleagues' careful consideration of all Louisville families when crafting the budget.
Have a good weekend,

BrentSignature

To July 26 | JCPS Summer Bulk Meals

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is giving families a second option for feeding children this summer. The district will have three bulk meal distribution sites where parents or guardians can pick up a box with five free breakfasts and lunches for their kids. The new option is in addition to the walk-in or walk-up program JCPS School and Community Nutrition Services (SCNS) has offered the past couple of summers. Both programs are open to all children 18 years old or younger until July 26th.  For walk-up locations, click here.

Free, in-person breakfasts and lunches will be available each weekday at 41 mobile stops and 12 community partner locations. Families who are not able to bring their child each day can pick up the 10 prepackaged meals for each child at one of the three bulk distribution sites on Tuesdays:

  1. Beckley Park at the Egg Lawn  (1411 Beckley Creek Pkwy, Louisville, KY 40245), two parking areas down from the dog park and near the sprinkler park

  2. Evangel World Prayer Center (6900 Billtown Rd, Louisville, KY 40299), close to the  Gene Snyder Freeway

  3. PRP Fire Training Center (8201 Greenwood Rd, Louisville, KY 40258), close to Cane Run Road.

The three drive through bulk distribution sites will be open from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. every Tuesday beginning June 4th.

·   Parents will be able to pick up one meal box per child. Each box contains five breakfasts and five lunches.

·   There is a limit of two boxes if children are not present with a parent.

·   Parents requesting food for more than two children will be required to have all children present.

Public Notices

Our office routinely publishes information on upcoming public meetings and regarding planning and zoning cases in and around District 26. Our posting in this forum is not an official notice. This list may not be comprehensive nor does it include other zoning matters decided upon by zoning authorities other than Louisville Metro Government.

While we intended to expand the scope of our zoning notices, our office reverted to the former policy of relaying the information we receive from Planning and Zoning. We are limited by ordinance and state law to provide the publicly available information.
