Derby City Wrestling teams up with Louisville Free Public Library to bring first of its kind children’s literacy event to the Southwest Regional Library  The Louisville Free Public Library is partnering with Derby City Wrestling to think outside the box in promoting children’s literacy. LFPL and DCW will host “Reading & Wristlocks” on Friday, March 22, 6:00pm, at the Southwest Regional Library. This free community event will feature superstars from Derby City Wrestling reading to children, taking pictures, and signing autographs, before they lock up and square off inside the ring for a night of exciting pro wrestling action. Derby City Wrestling is a weekly episodic pro wrestling television series that airs Saturday at noon on MY58 in the Louisville/Southern Indiana media market and in syndication throughout Georgia, Nevada and Arizona. It is produced by Los Angeles based David Marquez productions, an Emmy Award-winning global media company that has provided full-service television production and distribution for more than 25 years in combat sports. “Reading & Wristlocks” is a free, non-televised live event and space is extremely limited. Headlines

Last week Metro Council committees met and adopted several resolutions and ordinances as well as held discussions on Metro’s 2^nd quarter FY 2024 budget and from the Jefferson County Fire Chiefs Association.  Below is the summary of the meetings:

Summary

The Planning & Zoning Committee approved a change to zoning along Cane Run Road and a Planning Commission recommendation to require additional community review for revised development plans.  

The Labor, Economic Development & Appropriations Committee approved several council district appropriations and infrastructure ordinances including an appropriation for the 7^th Annual Shakespeare in the Park.  They also amended previously approved tax incentives for UPS and Ellie Diagnostics.

The Public Works Committee adopted a state grant making improvements to Old Bardstown Road’s intersection with Hillock Drive.  

The Government Oversight/Audit & Appointments Committee approved appointments to the West End Opportunity Partnership Board, Code Enforcement Board, Downtown Management District, and the Tree Advisory Committee. 

The Equity & Community Affairs Committee approved a resolution asking for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. 

The Public Safety Committee approved ordinances granting ABC regulatory powers over pop-up parties and emergency suspension powers over alcohol licensees.  The committee also approved a structural collapse training contract for Louisville Fire and a LMPD speed enforcement grant for stretches along I-64 and I-65.  The committee also heard testimony from the Jefferson County Fire Chiefs Association. 

The Parks & Sustainability Committee adopted an Air Pollution Control District contract to purchase new air monitoring equipment. 

The Budget Committee held a special discussion on Metro’s 2^nd quarter FY 2024 budget.

Metro Council will meet again at 6:00pm, Thursday, March 14, 2024. 

Attention Rental Property Owners,

The Department of Codes & Regulations has initiated their new Rental Registry program and your action is required. Property owners must register all their rental units with the city and pay a fee ranging from $25 to $250; failure to register is subject to a fine up to $100 per day per housing unit.

The registry will provide accurate and up-to-date contact information for property owners and management companies to help the city better identify and contact the responsible parties should Code Enforcement Officers find code violations at a rental property. Louisville Metro Government will randomly select properties from the list each year to undergo inspections to ensure the units meet the city code of ordinances.

Potholes! What to do? Potholes are showing up everywhere! Why is that and how do they get fixed? Potholes are caused by water seeping into the cracks of asphalt. This is caused by water getting into surface cracks caused by a weakened asphalt. Winter in the Metro Louisville area can be brutal with the constant amount of rain and snow that we have in the area. If the asphalt is already weakened, then the pothole is inevitable. Potholes are hard on our cars! The good news? This is one of the easiest things to get fixed! How do you do that? Report it! Be sure to give the exact location. Report it by calling Metro311 or 574-5000 or complete a form online here. You can also report by using the Metro Call App! The link to download the app can be found here.  You may also give our office a call at 502-574-1112 or email Heather.Blazis@louisvilleky.gov and we will submit it for you.  Don’t forget to write down and keep the 311 case number when you call. That gives us a way to track the process. We have requested several pothole repairs in the last year and Public Works has done an amazing job of getting them fixed. Let’s make sure we continue to do that! Report it as soon as you see it! Let’s get them scheduled! Working together we will make sure that we take care of these as quickly as possible!
