Dear Neighbor,
It's hard to believe we are almost to February of a new year. I hope you and your family have made it through the wintry blast of the past week relatively unscathed.
Metro Council has started the new year with some reorganization and new ideas to help move our City foward.
For the next year, I was asked by my colleagues to serve as the Government Oversight Chair. This honor has been a role of mine in the past. Committee chairmanships change with some frequency, so one is never certain of their leadership post until it is selected each year. I appreciate the confidence of the other council members and this added opportunity to serve you and Louisville Metro.

Led by Public Works & Assets' Roads & Operations Division, your Metro Snow Team has worked tirelessly over the past two weeks, making sure Metro roadways were safe! We want to thank our Metro partner agencies for their commitment to keeping our citizens safe during adverse weather conditions! - Public Works' Solid Waste Management Services and Signs & Markings, Metro Parks, Metro Fleet Services and Codes & Regulations' Vacant Lots Division. Your dedication is what keeps the roads open and safe during inclement weather!
Winter is not over. The Team will remain ready for the next winter weather event!
Snow Team activity numbers thus far:
- 200 pieces of equipment (dump trucks/plows, loaders, skid steers, utility trucks)
- 0ver 200 personnel (truck drivers, mechanics, heavy equipment operators, truck drivers, dispatchers, IT specialists, other support personnel)
- 111 snow routes covered
- 2,700+ two- lane miles in Metro roadways
- 18,900+ miles collectively driven in 7 rounds of treatment
- 38,000 tons of salt on hand at start of season
- 7,000 tons of salt used
- 5,536 staffing hours worked

 Hikes Lane is undergoing a multi-month rehabilitation project, which has largely been completed on schedule. Cleanup and cosmetic work remains. Expect delays and detours as we repair and replace many of the concrete slabs that make up this connective roadway. We will try to keep you updated on closures as we are made aware of them.
IMPORTANT!! - Pay close attention to work plan and detour map to best navigate the area!
 The Louisville Metro Police Department and the traffic guards it employs take their responsibility for the safety of students and pedestrians at their assigned intersections throughout Louisville Metro seriously. Currently, they are below their authorized strength and do not have enough traffic guards to cover all the intersections with a need for traffic control. Furthermore, traffic guards are assigned intersections based upon a contractual bidding process. LMPD communicates with the affected schools and is continuously attempting to hire more traffic guards. There are approximately 100 boards and commissions with many areas of interest, including business and economic development, land planning, parks and recreation, public health and public safety.
