• Mayor Greenberg attended my Coffee with your Councilman
• I sponsored and passed legislation to increase oversight on collective bargaining agreements
• Mayor Greenberg introduced, the Council amended, and we passed the city’s annual budget with the largest spending on infrastructure in the city’s history
• The Floyds Fork DRO language improvements moved their way through the process including incredible engagement by the public
• I participated in the HB314 Commission which made recommendations to the state on how to improve merger 20 years later
• We improved on the nominating and approval process for committees and made significant improvement on the lack of political diversity
• I sponsored and passed legislation to improve the process around bond releases on new developments
• The city has banned the sale of cats and dogs through retail vendors
• We passed an ordinance that seeks to limit the impact on local residents caused by city funded/supported developments
• We passed legislation that I co-sponsored to allow for cooperation between Metro ABC and the city of Middletown
• We passed the 2^nd zoning case and a TIF for the One Park development
• We ran a surplus last year (FY 2022-2023) and allocated that money toward infrastructure, increasing the rainy day fund, and paying down debt

That was a busy, busy year. With that said, there is WAY more work to do and it is ‘all hands to the pump’ to continue to improve our city. We have much more work to do to reduce homicides, we need to continue fighting for infrastructure improvements particularly in our area of the city that has seen so much residential growth, and we must continue to make this city a great place to live for everyone. The state has just begun their long session so please touch base with your state representatives (ours are either Representative John Hodgson or Representative Jason Nemes and Senator Julie Raque Adams) and advocate for your concerns. I will be speaking to them about more road funding and more public safety support.

Floyds Fork DRO Project:

Planning and Design will be considering all the comments they have received while they prepare the third and final draft before the draft regulations go to the Planning Commission.  As a reminder, they will publish the third draft on the page on Thursday, December 21.  Planning and Design will continue to take comments up until noon on January 2, and then all comments will be forwarded to the Planning Commission members.  The Planning Commission public hearing will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Old Jail Auditorium, 514 W. Liberty Street, Louisville, KY.  Anyone wishing to attend virtually will be able to do so via Webex, and that link will be published on this page, https://louisvilleky.gov/government/planning-design/upcoming-public-meetings, once the meeting has been created.

Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites Now Open through 1/27/24

Starting Tuesday, December 26, Christmas tree drop-off sites will be available for all Louisville/Jefferson County residents at three locations:

• East District Recycling Center, 595 N. Hubbards Lane
• Public Works Yard, 10500 Lower River Road (enter from Bethany Lane)
• Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue

HOURS: Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. December 28 - January 27 (Waste Reduction Center closes at 3 p.m. on Saturdays)

All locations will be closed on Saturdays December 30 and January 13 in observance of New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

LMPD 8th Division SCAM Alert

We Will not ask you for money over the phone! We want to make everyone is aware of a recent scam. Here's how the scam plays out: The victim receives a call from a "professional-sounding" person who identifies themselves as law enforcement and gives actual names of current or former police officers. The scammer gives the victim basic details indicating they know the individual and informs them they have failure to appear/contempt warrants. The phone number is usually spoofed and shows it's from a local police division or department. After some convoluted steps, the scammer offers for the victim to pay for the warrants through Venmo,  PayPal, or another electronic way. We do not know of this being successful for the scammer yet, but it is a concern that public trust is being exploited and the names of LMPD officers are being used. We polled other police departments nationally and have been told this is a scam occurring in other cities around the country. These crafty scammers can be very hard to catch, so we must get the word out. 1. Use an online form by clicking here.
2. Use Twitter by sending the location of the hole to @LouMetro311 and include the hashtag #502pothole.
3. Call Metro311 or 574-5000 to report potholes or any other issues.
4. You can also call my office at 574-1119 or email chanelle.smith@louisvilleky.gov and we'll turn it in on your behalf.
