This Week's Road Work

next week's road work

This week, our contractor is planning to remove and replace concrete pavement at the intersection of Frankfort Ave. and River Rd.  As a result, it is anticipated that Frankfort Ave. will be shut down at that intersection starting Tuesday, December 26, 2023, and will remain closed until Friday, January 5, 2024. River Road will remain open through this work.

Holiday Closings & Delays

Holiday Delays

There will be no residential waste collection in the Urban Services District on Monday, December 25 or Monday, January 1. All services will be on a one-day delay. Use the Recycle Coach app to stay informed about holiday changes! Residents normally serviced by private waste haulers should check with those companies for holiday collection schedules.

Holiday Closings

The three staffed recycling locations, Waste Reduction Center, and Haz Bin, will be closed on December 23 and December 30 in observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Compost Your Christmas Tree!

compost your Christmas tree

Starting Tuesday, December 26, Christmas tree drop-off sites will be available for all Louisville/Jefferson County residents at three locations. The Hubbards Lane site will also instantly recycle Christmas trees into mulch that will be offered back to citizens for home use. Those wishing to receive mulch must bring an appropriate container in which to carry it. All lights and ornaments should be removed from trees before they are dropped off. Christmas tree vendors may recycle their unsold trees on Tuesday, December 26 only, and only at the Hubbards Lane site.

HOURS & LOCATIONS Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Waste Reduction Center closes at 3 p.m. on Saturdays) December 28 - January 27

All locations will be closed on Saturdays December 30 and January 13 in observance of New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

•    East District Recycling Center, 595 N. Hubbards Lane

•    Public Works Yard, 10500 Lower River Road (enter from Bethany Lane)

•    Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue

Metro Public Works will also provide curbside pickup of Christmas trees within the Urban Services District after the holiday. Residents with city yard waste collection may set their Christmas trees and greenery out on their regular collection day. Trees may not be in plastic bags and all decorations must be removed.  Residents normally serviced by private waste haulers should check with those companies to see if and when tree pickup is available.

Recycle Broken String Lights

Recycle Broken String Lights

If you just can't get them to work, recycle them with your old electronics. Never put them with household recycling because they'll get tangled up and cause problems at the recycling sorting facility. https://louisvilleky.gov/government/public-works/electronics-recycling.

Evolve502 Scholarship

Evolve502 is grateful for the support of Metro Government and Metro Council in making access to college easier for students and families in Louisville. We are closing in on meeting the $3 million match from the FY2023 Metro budget and hope to cross the finish line this spring. To date we’ve raised more than $25 million toward our $50 million goal to offer a generation of students a tuition-free postsecondary education.

We wanted to send you a quick update/progress report on Evolve502’s effort to enroll JCPS graduates in a two-year tuition-free postsecondary education opportunity. In the first three years Evolve502 enrolled more than 1,500 JCPS graduates in college at Jefferson or Simmons College of Kentucky; 21 of those students live in district 9 and 5 of those are from the class of 2023. Creating access to postsecondary education and strengthening the workforce are critical to our community’s future success and Evolve502 is working with students, families and partners every day.

If you know a family with a student graduating from a JCPS high school in 2024 encourage them to apply. Students and families interested in exploring their next steps toward a postsecondary credential, certificate or degree can receive resources and support from Evolve502. More than 1,300 students from the class of 2024 have applied already.
